question on energy screen display

There are 8 bars displaying battery state of charge. Blue means everything's normal, nothing doing, etc., and you get that up to 6 bars. I believe 2 or less is red, though you rarely if ever see that (after startup when battery is assisting at first you may) but the system works to keep it in the blue, so your gas engine will go straight away to charging the battery back up in that case.

The green means a higher state of charge, which you'll see when there are 7 or 8 bars (full). You'll usually get this from lots of regen, but so far I have also rarely seen it just through regularly driving and charging. The system will then again work to keep it in the middle, or blue bars, by using the battery more than normal.

As Mike implied, the colors are redundant with the number of bars.

 

Some in the industry miss the days when consumers knew almost nothing about how their vehicle worked.

Prius helped to change that by empowering owners with a display.

Yes! This is so true. I'm not ashamed to admit that before getting this car I had zero idea how cars worked. I still have 90% no idea, but I'm fascinated and am trying to learn things little by little - I recently figured out how an internal combustion engine works, quite the leap

 

I wish they'd go the rest of the way and have 2 more screens available... one for when you're driving that shows lots more gauges... like a scangauge but more so... and ane diagnostic that actually shows all the trouble codes when active and a description of the problem. They have the computer and the display, and a car that does appeal to enthusiasts.
