    hi
i got quoted $590 for the extended maintenance plan (4 years, premium level) for my new toyota prius II...seems like it's cheaper than what most people are paying, and cheaper than what troy is offering, or am i reading/calculating something incorrectly?

I believe you're referring to the Toyota Auto Care pre-paid maintenance plan upgrade. Which BTW, I am currently offering for $430.00 on the Prius (For the 4 yr / 45K plan). But don't confuse this with the Extended Warranty plans, they're completely different products.

Is there a web page that documents what this maintenance plan covers?

    Sure, here is the link:

Toyota Financial Services: Toyota Auto Care Prepaid Maintenance

And this would be for the Premium level of coverage
(NOTE: Toyota is going to be renaming this plan 'Toyota Care Plus' after February 1st.)

Hi! I'm a NewB and purchased my first Prius three weeks ago. I've been concerned about whether I made a mistake in not buying the extended warranty from the dealer, but it was just too much money on top of the purchase price total. I've been thrilled with the knowledge I've gained since finding Prius Chat, and now this thread is the real find. I've skimmed thru many of the 131 pages and am uncertain about one thing. The 7yr/100k mi. plan .... does that get added on to the 3yr. Toyota plan for a total of 10 years? Should I wait to buy later, or buy it now? We only drive about 8,000 miles/year. I Thank You for your advice and any other tips.

7 years total. There are lower mileage options. No need to buy it now, just before the original factory warranty expires.

I am about to buy a used 2007 Prius with 59,600 miles on it and it had 3 previous owners, one of which was used for a Taxi company.

The question I have is about the manufacturer warranty. I keep hearing mixed things about 3 yr/ 36K mile warranty and I also hear about 7yr/100K mile warranty. Hopefully the latter would still apply for this car and it auto transfers with the car title?
The current owner has no idea about the warranty.

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The manufacturers warranty which follows the car is as follows:

    - 3 yr / 36K - Full comprehensive (basically what is commonly referred to as the "bumper-to-bumper" portion of the coverage.
    - 5 yr / 60K - Powertrain (Covers the gasoline engine, transmission, and axle assembly components i.e. CV joints, axle bearings, etc...)
    - 8 yr / 100K - Hybrid Warranty (Covers the four major Hybrid components consisting of the Hybrid Battery, Inverter/Converter, hybrid control module, and the battery control module.

Those follow the car, so there's nothing you need to do to transfer the coverage over to yourself.

If there was a pre-existing Toyota Extra Care extended warranty plan on the car, the original purchaser of it would have to initiate the transfer to you. That's becuase they also have the right to cancel it for a pro-rated refund...it's the policy holders choice as to cancel or transfer the coverage when they sell the car.

Send me an email or PM if you have any more questions.

Troy, I paid almost 2400 for Platinum 60 month 100K warranty, not realizing the factory covered the hybrid system for that long or more. I based my decision on my previous two Honda hybrids which had expensive repairs covered by my extended warranties. Those warranties were 400 per each year and overlapped the 3yr/36K warranties. Cashing out of them took a big hit because they deducted actual payout amounts from the zero deductible claims. This means I was actually charged for the time I didn't tighten the gas cap enough (caused a check engine light), and the dealer billed $90 to the warranty, which reduced my cash back at warranty cancellation. Anyways, I want to know how I cancel my new warranty and get yours -- I bought the car on Saturday 1/22 and have no paperwork on the warranty. They said it comes in the mail. But the price is on the contract and it's expensive.

    Hi HappyPrius,

We just talked on the phone a little while ago...but for anyone else following this thread: I can only sell the Toyota Extra Care plans on vehicles while they're still within the original 3 yr / 36K factory warranty. Once a vehicle is beyond that, only a dealer which is also selling a car at the same time can offer a warranty plan for it.

Hi Troy, I'm getting close to the 30K mark and I'm needing a quote(s). Probably going with the 6 or 7 year Platinum, 100k or 125k, don't know which will be good for me yet? Thanks!

I just bought my new 2010 Prius III. I've never purchased an extended warranty for a Toyota before. How much are the different options?

I scrolled through a few pages and didn't see this asked. I purchased a warranty through the dealership. It was financed into the loan. If I cancel and try to get the warranty advertised here, how will I get the money back? Will my loan be readjusted? Returned to me? Or applied to principal?

I just bought it this past weekend on a 2011

Let's say I've been stupidly sitting on an inflated dealer-priced warranty for 11+ months and just now had the epiphany to cancel (sigh). Having financed the loan through TFS, will I be able to get this pro-rated cancellation (mileage is not even to 7000 miles yet) at this late stage (and have the refund applied to my principle)? Then, I can subsequently decide over the next 2 years if I want to purchase the bargain-priced platinum Toyota warranty being offered by your kind self.

If there is a lienholder listed on the warranty, the cancellation refund will be applied towards the principal balance. It's just the same as if you wrote a check yourself to the bank for whatever the amount is. So you'll save whatever interested you would have paid on the amount of the warranty, and you'll end up paying the loan off a bit sooner, but it won't change your monthly payments.

Sure, you can cancel your current plan for any reason. For cancellations you can either go back to the issuing dealer, or contact Toyota Financial Services directly at 800-228-8559.

If at some point you decide you'd like to purchase a new policy, you're eligible as long as you're still within the 3 yr / 36K factory warranty.

Hi Troy!. I submitted my quote request online for my new Prius that I should be picking up on Friday!. I have been quoted a 6 Year 75,000 Warranty at $1295 plus he said he would extend the current 2 year Free maintenance plan offered by Toyota out to 4 years, 45,000 miles. Not sure if thats a good deal or not. I havent haggled with him yet over this of course and wont until Friday when I sign the papers. Look forward to seeing your quote and any other advice that you can give me. This forum by the way is awesome!....love the information!.
