5,000 Mile Maintenance Warning On 2010?

As it happens, the oil change notice just turned on for my car. I had thought that I had overridden the 5K interval setting via the maintenance setup screen, but either it reset itself to 5K or the dealer reset it to 5K when the oil was last changed. I know not which, but I do note that the little sticker the dealer puts on the upper left corner of the windscreen also indicates that I should bringing the car in after 5K miles from when the oil was last changed.

Fortunately, both of these things are easy to override.

My dealer, left to its own devices, would use conventional 10W20 when it replaces the oil. I had to make it very clear to them that this was not acceptable.

 

Toyota still wants you to follow the every 5,000 mi scheduled maintenance, whether at the dealer or you DIY. Every other 5K miles is just inspection and tire rotation, with no oil change. I rotate the tires every 10K miles (as OEM tires have no warranty anyway). It's important that you follow factory recommendation for warranty purposes even if you take it to the dealer every 10K miles.

 

32K is absolutely correct ... here's what you're supposed to do at 5K in RED for a non-Special Operating Condition vehicle. I'm going to take mine in every 5K since it has the free maintenance up to 25K, so let them do whatever they do for free. After that ... the dealer won't see my car until there's a warranty issue, as I do my all own maintenance.

5,000 miles or 6 months
Check installation of driver’s floor mat
Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
Rotate tires

I do not use my dealer for oil changes. Here is how to reset the reminder:
1. Display "trip A"'
2. Push the park button, then the power off button. You will need to fully turn off the car.
3. Locate the MPH/Kilometers button on the dashboard. Press and hold down and then restart the car by pushing the power on button (hold both buttons down at the same time - when the scale is re-set, let go of both buttons)
