Whats goin on everyone? I just traded in my 2008 Sequoia SR5 for my 2011 Prius. I am already loving the gas mileage (currently 42.7 mpg) and everything about the Prius. I am anxious to see how many miles I can get out of a tank of gas once the car is broken in.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride! Keep in mind the computer read out is slightly generous with the fuel economy (about 5%). Keep track of the numbers at the pump.

Prius engines don't even need breaking in ---

I've driven several rental 2010 Prii with 3 miles on them starting. Immediately, they jump to about 52 MPG with continuous driving. My 2009 was over 50 MPG in August from brand new.

You might see lower 40 MPG figures with really short trips < 5 minutes. But, if you drive over 10 minutes +, city, highway anywhere, it can hit high 40's, low 50's depending.

Check tires, feel free to go at least a couple PSI over stock recommendation, easy on brakes and gas.

You're better off not driving too far on a tank. Fuel pump in tank and it needs gas to suck on. Just fill it up right away when last pip starts blinking.

Now that's a smart move: a Sequoia for a new Prius. You can't beat that deal! Congrats and welcome to PriusChat.

It is a smart move trading the Sequoia. We are saving around $200 in gas a month. :)

As for gas calculations, I usually dont have much faith with car calculations, getting pump numbers are much more accurate.

I see a lot prii driving around, but I noticed that no one waves or acknowledges other prii drivers. I guess since there are so many on the roads, it would get tiring after a while. :)

That is because of the poor visibility. ;)

It is probably true that Prii don't 'need' breaking in, but many people have reported noticeably better gas mileage after a few thousand miles. For me, gas mileage went up 5mpg after about 5,000 miles.

Around here we noticed other Prius drivers either flashing their lights or one time honking when they were driving by after we parked.

It reminds me of my old CJ-7 days 20 or so years ago. Enjoy the ride!!

I am familiar with the Jeep wave...and when I had my 07 FJ Cruiser, they had similar wave. I was just surprised with all the prii drivers out there, there wasn't a way to say 'wassup' to other drivers. I tend to wave just incase other drivers look over.

Congrats on the new Prius! Stop in to Big Two Toyota sometime to say hi when you're in the Phoenix area!

PSD, keep on waving. The reason other Prii drivers don't wave is because they're too busy reading the dash hybrid graphics like a video game. They'll come out of their revelry and start waving.

Twittel, You are right, I catch myself reading the dash and "playing" the MPG game as well. Im not sure whats worse...texting and driving, or reading the dash and driving. :)
