I don't know where you get that number from, but I can guess. It's completely wrong, of course.

Don't know where the op got the thought that a BMW could be more crude than a cheap toyota... be something if they tried to badge a prius as a lexus I suppose...

    300,000 mile high club?!?

Sweet jesus, is that the high point in your motoring lives when you drive an electric car?

    go for it

    E30 Zone

see you there and do you worst

simply, this thread and the OP's post makes out the the prius to be the best thing since sliced bread, and anything else is a lesser car.

the truth its not, the fact is given a choice most people and dare is say 98 percent will take a bmw over a toyota especially if a prius is on offer and an e90 320d which is a comparable model

I'll put on some pop-corn if your going to wreak havoc on the zone or one of our forums.

Give us a link when your ready... I won't even post in it either to help your cause :)

BMW were one of the first manufactures to offer engines that turn off when needed and then restart instantly again.

BMW also have had HIDs as long as Prius have even existed.

Both my '90 BMW have HIDs albeit an easy retro-fit as they still had projector type beams which are needed for HIDs

Hello all, I'm new here (and not a BMW owner) i work on the designing section of the Prius range here in China (I'm an Aussie) and can shed a few myths that have been stated here.
Firstly our Prius isn't the most ecological efficient car out there , if mpg is what your looking for there a few that beat us.. so far. Giving stick about the German cars is foolish considering their current Volkswagen Polo Blue motion has a 29% better fuel economy rating then our current range leader. Whilst we are moving ahead in great lengths to minimize our carbon footprint, the manufacturing of these Hybrids is not taken into account when Pollution regulations are theoretically enforced and this is something the public hear very little of. We here can assure you that Hydrogen will be the Savior of the motorcar ,however fuel cell development is extremely costly and time consuming. We have had several other brands of car here to study and dare i say the BMW 123d we had here was surprisingly well technologically equipped and although based on a sport platform it had concepts which will be replicated in some of our future designs. That car had all the modern equipment stated above and is looked upon as a very well designed car (even by us). All car manufacturing companies will no doubt offer something that can benefit us all as they usually have and the european car makers on seen to be on par with the Japanese.

I LOL at the misinformation in this thread by two users that shall remain nameless...

Toyota engines dying at 50k? Are you serious? Only beamers go 500k miles? Are you aware that there are Prii out there with the same milage? Even on the same battery pack too, just to put that one to rest.

And yes your 2001 beamer has "centralized locking" but it is not what we are talking about. The Prius uses a Smart Key System (SKS). You keep the "key" in your pocket. When you walk up to the car, and put your hand in the handle, the door unlocks. No user interaction. You get in, press a start button the dash and drive off. You do not insert a key anywhere anytime. No buttons need to pressed on the keyfob anytime. This is very very different. You might be surprised with all the little creature comforts inside. Dynamic radar cruise control that you can relate to the Mercedes E (I think E class). Cruise control by staying X metres behind a vehicle instead of staying at Y kph. Constant distance versus constant speed. Lane Keep assist (again similar to what merc does) where it will nudge your steering back into your lane if you drift a bit. Lots of little things.

And if you drive like a bat out of hell in a Prius, you get 40-45 miles per gallon US. That is 54 of your miles per gallon, and 5.2l/100km. Driving it like a "hippie" can yeild 60mpg US (72mpg 3.9 l/100km)...

I have no problem with you guys coming on here wanting to thrash us, but at least be civil and not use garbage to back up your claims. So far the only truthful statement is that you will beat the Prius in any sort of race when equal drivers are used. Other than that it is a lot of misinformation coming from your side.

why is it that prius owners seem to claim their cars in the luxury car category ? they are over priced because the technology is expensive, plus there is lot of hype about them

even some regular forum members make this point clear

what i'd like to know is which bmw the OP was driving to the gas station and comparing to a prius?

so you have smart key entry system, wow. are you the only people to have that. MB has been using it for a few years now, as have BMW.

do you know how the car is built ?

where the raw materials come from, how they are shipped across the world ?

once GWB legacy of conquering Iraq is completed you'll have more oil and the green dream will be just that

V8's will be back in fashion

Re: Drove my wife's BMW. Boy was it crude.

Are you aware that this is how almost everything is made? Even your previous BMW's 12v battery more than likely had the lead mined from some poor scrap of land on this side of the pond.

There are very very few commerically available items that are made and assembled in one location in todays world.

It is very common for raw metal to be mined in the states, formed into steel, shipped over the china, formed into a machine of some kind, shipped back to the states, where it is painted and a logo is slapped on it, and then it is sold to a customer somewhere else in the world like the UK or even back to China.

It is just the way it works. And the big mine in sudbury, ontario you speak of (the nickel mine for the NiMh batteries) has many more customers than Toyota/Panasonic.

Do you think that all computer manufacturers build their plants over a big pit of lithium so they dont have to buy batteries from elsewhere in the world? Are you aware that the batteries are recycled?

Re: Drove my wife's BMW. Boy was it crude.

i think you need to get over the fact that the prius is not as great as you believe it to be:D

the OP was a pure inflammatory post which has been contested by a few people but any thing we say is looked as a troll post

the words prius and luxury should not even be in in the same sentence unless there its is constructed as follows

a prius is NOT and luxuary car

    I'm not even American lol.

But the thread starter as well as most here are american. The Prius makes much more sense here. Even in Canada it is closer to $26k CDN. But that is not what we are talking about. You have decided to come into an american forum and boast about your ways, so you have essentially stuck yourself at the mercy of the us auto market.

But I will play your game. Name another car in the UK that has SKS and costs under 21,000GBP.
