This sounds like a fantastic community, and I look forward to being a member!

I've done my best to find the answer; I've confused myself. I'll try to make this short and sweet.

    - purchased 2007 Prius

    - Given one Fob (silver emblem)

    - Remote lock/unlock doesn't work, BUT red light does come on when pressed.

    - Can't get any SKS functions to work (I've checked the disable button).

    I need two things:

    1) I need my current Fob to work (both remote lock/unlock and SKS)
    2) I need another Fob for my wife (preferably with same features)

What are my best options and costs?

Forgive any repeat post; this stuff is surprisingly confusing!

    Thank you!!

where did u buy it? did the seller tell you it didn't work? i think the dealer is your only option for a second fob. shop around for the best price. replace the battery, $3. it's worth a shot. all the best! and welcome!

I bought it from a small dealer in Kansas City, MO. The dealer thought that the battery just needed to be replaced in the Fob; he also took $200 off the price so I could purchase another Fob for my wife. I'm assuming the battery isn't the issue because the red light comes on.

Most likely the battery is fine if the red light is coming on. On the other hand, the battery only cost a couple of bucks, so you might want to try it. All of your other options are going to cost several hundred dollars.

Without a working fob, you will need a dealer to do a seed reset of the SKS ECU and add your existing fob and a new one (if you want two fobs). The dealer calls Toyota, gives them the information from the programming tool, and Toyota provides a special one-time-use code to reset the ECU. After that the fobs can be added to the car.

Expect to spend a couple of hundred dollars for the extra fob, and another couple of hundred more for labor. It's not cheap.

i'm assuming a small car dealer, not toyota? i think your best bet is to visit as many toyota dealers as you have patience for. from what i have seen here, the prices vary widely and unless you get a price of $2-300. on the first shot, i'd keep looking.

Can you find out who owned the car? Have a Toyota dealer do a search and find out if the car has been dealer maintained . This will also tell you who the original owner was. From there you should be able to contact the dealer and owner. He may be on this site for all you know. They may have forgot to turn in the FOB. I did this with my 2006 and got the life time service info! My car did come with both fobs . Hal

Just checked the battery, and it's coming in fine at 3volts.

So I guess my current Fob needs to be registered/programmed? Can I not do this myself? I've come across a few guides for something like this on the forums.

Are we talking 200-300 dollars for one replacement Fob?

I registered on the Toyota site. Looks like the original dealer (not the one I bought it from), is:

    Superior Toyota
    8400 W Shawnee Mission Pk
    Merriam, KS 66202

You need to go back to the dealer that you bought from and say that your car has a problem because your smart key doesn't work, and DEMAND that they fix it. They have screwed you!!! There is nothing that you can do on your own to fix your problem. Only someone with a Techstream scan tool with the professional locksmith license can reprogram your car, just as qbee2 says.

yes, for one fob. and you can't program the sks key yourself, only the non sks. if you purchased from a toyota dealer, i would try to get them to fix it.
