What if a gallon of gasoline cost $2 in the middle of the night, was free at lunch and set you back $8 in the afternoon? Welcome to the world of electric cars

umm welcome to the world PERIOD...or lets put it another way....

what if your lunch cost $4.99 because you are lucky enough to be available for the lunch buffet special (this is a personal example and NOT MADE UP IN ANYWAY) that is only available from 11 am to 2 PM, mon- thurs but you have to work and only have a 30 minute lunch and cant possibly make it so you pay the $7.99 regular price??

this article was torn apart on every forum i have visited. just more FUD

Thanks for the article! GREAT read! Sounds like all-electric vehicles, that are practical for people like me (>200 mile trips several times a year) are likely still a decade away...so I should stop worrying that buying a gas-electric hybrid is buying technology that will soon be obsolete. It will be with us for awhile yet!

That's the thing. $5.25 gets me 1.5 gallons right now, or 70+ miles in the Prius. EVs have taken too long to get here and gas has become historically extremely efficient in the interim. And by the time you drive enough to make that EV savings rise up the gas chances are you're beyond its limited range anyway so you're kind of stuck in a corner.

How about the TRUE COST of petroleum?

How much have we spent in the Middle East, trying to keep things 'calm' in the last ten years? WAY in excess of TWO TRILLION DOLLARS.

And having our economy ALWAYS held hostage by every little hiccup in petroleum supply?

Pass that COST along at the pump. And then splash blood on your car to symbolize the people SLAUGHTERED to keep that oil 'cheap'.

Gas powered transportation is the way of the past century, this new century will be quite different. The EE and associated infrastructure is still in it's infancy so there's a lot of additional efficiency to be had.

Much more relevant question is what will I drive next ?

I'm pretty sure I'm charged the same rate all day long. We're also limited in how much home generated power we can displace on the grid (can't have a negative bill). Illinois isn't in the 21st century yet.

You have been opening your mouth about electricity. Where will you be putting your money? And when?

since you posted this 2 days ago, gas has gone up 4 cents per gallon here...so what it cost you now to drive 70 miles? for me; $1.50
