I make no assumptions - I merely take you at your own words:Read your own post #214:

"I have a couple kill-a-watt devices. They are great and a lot cheaper."

The context was relative to your (now-inexpensive) hall-effect sensors. So, it appears that you post one "fact" (that the Kill-A-Watt is a lot cheaper than your hall-effect sensors) when it may support one point you want to make and then contradict yourself (by stating that the hall-effect sensors are inexpensive) as desired.

It all boils down to two words as one compound word: Blow-Hard. That's you....

The response above was responding to your post #217. Here it is again.

In that post you assume I purchased new breakers. Your assumption is wrong. They are cheap $1 hall effect sensors.

So, how is it that $30 in Kill-A-Watts is a lot cheaper than your cheap $1 hall effect sensors?

You're nowhere near as smart as you think you are. It's funny to watch your arrogance, hypocrisy and stupidity. Better entertainment can't be found at any price.

I can answer your questions all day.

A Kill-A-Watt is about $30 and monitors one power source.

My $1 Hall Effect sensors monitor one breaker. I have 40 breakers. Two phase breakers only need one sensor. That is $35 in sensors. Each of those sensors goes to a data acquisition box that cost about $40 and can handle 7 sensors. I have 5 of those boxes that add up to $200. That is about $235 that is $205 more than the price of a Kill-A-Watt.

If your goal is to monitor one item in the house to find out how much it cost and that is all you care about the Kill-A-Watt is the way to go.

If your goal is to monitor total power your house is using with a break out how much each breaker is using the Brultech system is the way to go.

    eric1234,

I'm sorry but now you are just being a jerk as part of some silly vendetta against judgeless. Grow up. Take his advice or leave it; learn what you can from him and let it go.

The point of kill-a-watt (KAW) was/is useful to me to quantitate device use. I did not attach it to my microwave because I already know it consumes 900 watts while operating, but I did measure my fridge for a couple of days because it uses power intermittently. I now am comfortable keeping that device until it fails rather than replace it. I also now know that when it breaks it is smarter to replace than to fix. And I know how much energy is saved by keeping the radiator coils free of cat hair ;). As someone who wants to minimize energy use I find it very helpful to know where to concentrate my efforts. The KAW is quite useful for that purpose. E.g., I have a very good idea how to reduce my total energy use (heating/cooling/electricity) to under 100 kwh/month. That is money saved, and good environmental stewardship. It would be nice if more people cared enough to do the same.

Which brings me to judgeless: Dude, your server is a pig ;)

I know. And that's exactly what is so entertaining. You're so stupid, yet so proud of yourself. You 800+ credit score and paid-off house have led you to believe you're superior to all others who may have a different perspective.

So you drop hundreds of dollars just to see how much electricity it takes when you put your make up on, yet you repeatedly tell others that have determined there is a value to the financial certainty that the extended warranty provides that they're not smart. This is sooo entertaining.

No one has ever argued that the Prius is not a reliable car. It is a fact that it's one of the most. No one has ever argued that -on average- the warranty provides Toyota a net profit (and therefore, the average consumer a net loss).

Yet, some find value in that. Just like you find value in finding out how much electricity you consume in each room. Yet, you still parade your perspective as though it is the product of some glorious enlightenment.

That's the real entertainment. And, even more fun, I know you'll always respond because you just have to get the last word in.

BLOW-HARD. (Is it one word or two?)

    Sagebrush,

You're right on both counts. I'm being a jerk. I just can't help myself when someone continues to fail to even begin to consider that an alternate perspective may exist. The further you dig, the more you find that people -just like Judgeless, for example- are really just full of shit, and want to hear themselves talk. They just never shut up.

As for the Kill-A-Watt, your points are all valid, and I agree. Of course, many of your points are for your own personal preference to quantify the questions to which you already knew the answer. You already knew that cleaning the coils would increase efficiency, but you find value in knowing how much. You already knew that a new fridge will be more efficient than your old one, but now you know how much. Those answers satisfy your intellectual curiosity, and therefore -to you- justify the costs.

In the same manner, if someone buys an extended warranty, it satisfies their desire to confirm that their future financial responsibilities to the car are covered. On average, most purchasers of extended warranty will spend more than they save, but they find value in having certainty that there will be no further expenses. Is one right or wrong? Is blue better than red?

That's all I'm saying. If only once Judgeless wasn't such a stubborn, self-absorbed, ignorant person cemented in his own perspective without any possible consideration for alternate perspectives, I wouldn't have been such a jerk, - but I just couldn't help myself. It was just too much fun.

So, I'm officially done with this thread. If I've offended or bothered anyone other than Judgeless - please accept my sincere apology. If I've offended Judgeless, good. (Of course, you can never really offend the ignorant, because they're too simple to register offense.)

WOW, some people get really upset when they realize they wasted $2,000 on an extended warranty.

It is a pig. Here is a pic.

There are 4 servers that consume about 500watts all the time. They are all quad core Intel 9550 machines. One is a file server that can sustain 130MB/s, a web/ftp/vpn server that host a few domains, a download machine that I use for newgroups and torrants, and the last runs Microsoft Media center with 4 HD tuners. The Media machine feeds 8 TV’s in the house over Ethernet.

I am thinking of moving some of the tasks to one box using virtual machine software. I still question that some of those tasks would require to many MIPS.

Then you should have no problem with Judgeless stating the facts without attacking him. You and others are free to spend your money as you see fit. No need to resort to attacks.

I have respond to that question a few times in this thread. Here is it again.

When you pay $2,000 for a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty how often do you think you might use it outside of what already comes with the car? This is what comes with your Prius.

    3 years 36k miles(Bumper to Bumper)
5 years 60k miles (Power train)
8 years/100k miles on the Hybrid System
10 years/150k (California) miles on the Hybrid Battery

I paid around $1000 for my 6/125K, thank you very much.

The $4000 you spent in the IV will get you the following in return. (Not including tech package)

    Add/Deducts: 17-Inch Aluminum Wheels +$200 Leather +$500 Navigation System +$1,000 Power Sunroof +$550 w/o Cruise Control -$450

Is it that hard to understand that everyone is different? Give it a break

Are claiming that if someone spends the extra $4,000 on:

Leather trimmed seats – I use this ever second I am in the car.
Leather trimmed steering wheel – I use this ever second I am in the car.
Heated front seats – I only use this on cold days. In Cleveland that is a lot of days.
Power driver lumbar support – I set it and leave it
    3-Door Smart Key – I use this 3-4 times a day.
Illuminated entry – I use this everyday but only at night.
Plasmacluster – May 3 times a week when I drive by something that smells.
Autodimming rearview mirror - I use this everyday but only at night.
Homelink – I use this 5-10 times a day to open my garage door.

That no one will use any of these features? I use most of these items every day. If I did want those features I would have purchased a II instead of a IV. Over the 10 years I plan to use this car, if you amortize the amount it comes to $33 a month for those features. You paid $1,000 for an extra 3 years of warranty. That is $27 a month and there is a very good chance you will never see a return.

The fact that people are different has zero to do with someone not doing research on the most reliable car manufactured in the world and wasting away $1,000 to $2,000. Most people spend $2,000, that comes to $54 a month over the extra 3 years.

I challenge you to find one person on this forum (GEN I,II,III) that made out with an extended warranty. I can post many examples of people with over 100,000 miles that never had more then $200 in repairs.

Interesting, thank you for sharing. Do you have any idea what your transfered MB/kwh is ? Say, compared to Googles ? :)
Virtual machines sure is the rage. Doubly so for MS OS's :)
Separate sandboxes aside, in the old days one box had multiple ethernet cards. Linux/Unix is a champ at that sort of thing.

Your setup is a whole lot more complicated than my puny mac-mini which acts as a cheap media server and household backup machine, but one of the things I like about it is the throttling in power depending on load or task.

Addendum: Google recommends this organizations's work --

    Well, my story:
My 2006 prius had a brake actuator replaced TWICE after the factory warranty had expired. Had I not had my extended warranty, I would have been out many thousands of dollars and I would have been REALLY pissed at Toyota. My investment paid off handsomely, indeed.

    Whoa!!! I did!!! Big time.
2006 brake actuator went out TWICE!! If not for the extended warranty I would have been out a few grand!!!!!
