Last Sunday, a good friend of mine called me and said he was ready to trade his car in and wanted to know how I liked my Prii. Well after bending his ear for 15 minutes he is now the proud owner of a Black 2010 Certified Prius III. I figure since I have two 2010's and can't buy any more of them, the least I can do is get everyone I know to buy one.

Dealers get a bad rap! It's not the job it use to be.
I use to love and go to the dealer and dicker on a new car!
You know spend hours going over the numbers.
Than it was I have to talk to the manager,Like he was the bad guy!
than back and forth to squeeze that last 50 bucks out of ya..ha..
Now it's upfront pricing or fair pricing or One price! ARGHHH!
Hate it. Now it's can I get you a cup of coffee or water.
But they still set you up with a closer guy to twist your arm for things
like rust proofing, paint sealant, extended warranty!

This is exactly how our sales experience went! I wonder if it's just Toyota or they're all doing it.

They did the back and forth with the manager on mine... All it took was me saying, "If you guys are willing to lose this deal over $250, you obviously don't need my business". Shortly later a deal was made.

Our arms never felt twisted; when asked if we wanted all those extra things we said, "No, thank you". Potential twisty arm guy said, "Okay."

^If you can pay with cash, you have much more sway. If there isn't a 0% APR offer, they can rake you over the coals with ease.

I guess this is the new low key sales approach, but it's still negotiating. The salesman should say, "Would you like an extended warranty with that coffee in case it gets cold?" :D

P.S. I hate tire-kicking, deal-making, car buying dickering! Thank God for the internet. After online research, I bought my Prius via email and loved it.

Ditto, I bought both my 2 Prius's or Prii via the internet. One new from the dealer, after working through my bank as a broker. The second one used via Autotrader from a dealer 1700 miles away. Still had the arm twisting on the new one when I arrived at the dealer for the "extras" but said no.

I just put my checkbook in my top shirt pocket and went down there!
Next time I'll try a broker or maybe the credit union.
The dealer told me a lot people like this one price :eek:hwell:
The same guy that told me they lose money on some cars:pound:

I had a dealer tell me one time that he has to sell cars at list price to several prople so that he can balance off folks like us that go in and dicker for a better deal. Telling people that there is no negotiating price is a sales tactic that works on a large percentage of buyers who hate to negotiate and can feel good after they've been undressed by saying "Oh well, the price was fixed there was nothing I could do." I was in sales for 30 years and if there's one thing I learned about selling, it's that anybody tells you that this is their final price or they don't drop their prices for anybody is using good, proven sales negotiating tactics. Anybody that hears this should say "Sorry but it's too much money. Here is what I am willing to pay and if you can't meet my offer I can run down the street to the next Toyota dealer". In most cases you'll find that there is still money left on the table.

skilbovia,I could not get as much as a quart of oil out of these guys!
I tried every trick in the book.
Asked about throwing in some mudflaps all he did was hand me an invoice with the retail price on it ..ha..And 50 bucks to put em on!
It was the car and the color I wanted,Think I did ok!
Maybe next time I'll buy new used and Let someone else pay all those dealer fees!
Had a new one this time a transit tax and wheelage fee?
I guess thats how they pay for the marble floors, bathrooms look like the bellagio las vegas!
