    Hey folks,

Just found this guy on ebay selling these cool shift knobs specifically designed for our cars. I purchased the green one and the fit and finish is awesome. He has several different colors available and at a reasonable price i think considering it is a direct fit.

direct fit JDM prius shift knob no adapter needed CLEAR - eBay (item 190487796994 end time Jan-11-11 22:04:18 PST)

i don't have any pictures of my own, but his pictures are pretty much spot on.

Unfortunately, hes listed as being in the same town as me, but would not concede to local pick up, regardless i received the knob very fast.

    bland look...

But if that's what your after good for you.

For me I think Toyota did a pretty good design job on the OE knob.\
    A bit "feminine" but distinctive.

I also like the OE knob, but I figure why not just switch it up. Looks to be a pretty quick swap.

    bino,
That push button is a nice find. I was thinking of making something like that but that seems much better. Let me know when you find how much it is.

I'm betting that if the stock shifter had not been on all the new Prii?? then the stock shifter would sell like hot cakes as an "add on" or replacement knob. I'm not sure about the "feminine" look. I guess I've been looking at the wrong females for my entire life.

Here's my take on the shifter knob alternative. Just came to me yesterday when I was walking around Downtown Disney. For those of you that are fans of Disney and know what Vinylmation is, here's my first attempt which I think works great. It's the Boogie Man from Nightmare Before Xmas. I'm working on getting R2-D2 as he will compliment my White/Blue and Black theme. Just have to get him off Ebay is all. No biggie though. Real quick and easy to make it work. Tell me what you think.

Shawn, that's sick! I used to be a big vinyl collector and would love to do something like this. How did you get it to thread on?

I went to the hardware store and bought a M6x1.0 tap and T-handle. Cane with the proper drill bit. Took the measurement to see how far in to drill and did it. Then match the bottom opening of the stock shift knob with a bigger drill bit and drilled out just the bottom of him to clear the none threaded portion. Once that was done I used the tap to cut the threads and screwed him on. Couldn't be easier or much cheaper. The character was $12 and the materials were $12.

Re: And here is my shift knob alternative

I found a tax disc holder (UK item), tapped the knob to fit the shifter shaft, and voila! It is low profile, and different, thinking of shortening the shaft another 1/4" to make it almost flush... Until I saw the push button shifter, so I might try to get one, assuming it will work with left hand drive. Might have to rewire the B and P button and swap the buttons?

Re: And here is my shift knob alternative

I do like a low profile shift knob because I always worry if I accidentally hit that OEM shift (although nothing would happen while the car is already moving) :p. I can be paranoid sometimes!
