Upcoming owner of 2010 Prius Tech Pkge

    Down deal - Upcoming owner of 2010 Prius Tech Pkge

    Visited my Toyota dealer for their Red Tag Sale here in Canada. Was fortunate enough as they had 3 remaining Prius in stock, 2 Tech and 1 Touring. The advantage of getting last yr model was clearly apparent on the deal we received for a '10 compare to a '11. Ended up getting a price match of a Touring for the Tech Pkge! Anyway, should be picking up the my Winter Green Prius this coming Thu or Fri and loooking forward to the "first" ride with it going home.

    Traded in my '03 Highlander and '08 Camry for it. No longer have use for 2 vehicles, and with the price of fuel rising... it just made sense to us. I will personaly miss the Highlander for its comfort and practicality...

    Any Canadian who own a Prius, feel free to post your feedback in regards with your experience of driving it. Can't wait to see the fuel economy at the pump and insurance premium.

    Hey there Ottawa, welcome, Antigonish NS here, and I'm counting the days till I drive my Blizzard Pearl home from the dealership. She's getting fog lights installed too. I hope the snow is gone soon and the pot holes are all filled up before I park her in my yard.

    Good to see some fellow canucks on here. I picked up a Toyota certified used 2010 blizzard pearl tech package in October 2010. it only had 8000km's so in my eyes, it was brand new. The other option was an actual brand new prius with cloth seats and much less tech for the same price. Needless to say I'm glad I went with the "used" car. I absolutely love it but I haven't broken 5.5l/100km yet. Prob because I live in a hilly area and have a daily commute of 2 minutes. You will find that the nav is pretty terrible but the audio system is kick-nice person. enjoy your new ride, and prepare for the hybrid hate you're bound to hear.

    Thanks for those who responded, who doesn't like canadian bacon, hey!

    I guess, 007, we will experience what is driving a Prius like very shortly, can't wait, but will have to until this coming Friday as that is when I will be getting it. No time prior as I have work engagement that is keeping me away, arghhh! My test drive around a few blocks had me pretty satisfied, guess have to get use to pressing on the gas while in Eco mode, wondering if I will get the tires to squeal if I keep pressing too much... hehe

    From what I've read off your post Kev is that your Prius has been treating you a OK! From what I have been reading of this forum in general is that short commute won't give you as good as fuel performance as longer ride per say. I am kinda curious how the car will be handling during the winter (yes I will equip it with good winter tires) but its more about the cold we can experience for about 3-4 months of the yr where maybe 2 can be really cold. Probably wondering how it will stay warm or something like that hehe. Concerning the equipment found in the Tech pkge, seems it is loaded with gizmos that I have never had in a vehicle, me scratches head to see how long it will take to become familiar with them.

    I think if I remember right there is a Prius owner who lives in Edmonton, he should for sure know how the Prius is at the coldest of winter!

    Yes, it'll squeal the tyres in PWR Mode and one or two people on board.

    You'll love the Tech Pack. I know I do! DRCC is awesome on those highway trips. There are a few owners in Edmonton (and the rest of the prairies for that matter).

    XMNavTraffic works well in neighbouring US States on Interstates. However, it's spotty in my area of Canada. Given that you're in the NCR, it may work better.

    Thanks for the link Tideland, very valuable information with the outcome of your experiment. I bet you were in Emdonton at that time to experienced this cold weather. I used to live there since 2007 and now just moved from Emdonton with my family last month and settled here in Ottawa because of work. The Alberta winters are quite special due to the cold that seems to never end!

    Guess that to block the grill during cold weather should help alot in keeping the Prius warm or warmer during these cold snap.

    On a lighter note...I was wondering, since the Prius has the lowest drag coefficient (0.25), does this mean there will be less bug splatters to clean off the windshield and front end!!!

    Yes it helps. There is a thread titled 2010 Prius Grille Blocking Strategy. There's a good table outlining the OAT and the amount of blocking needed. It's a good place to start if you don't have a Scangauge to monitor engine water temperature. ECO mode helps in the winter too (down to about -10°C) where it will shut off the engine even with the heater running lightly.

    Possibly, yeah. I think there's less compared to the Camry but note that the bumper will still collect a lot.

    Today is a great day as I am picking up my new Prius at the dealer this afternoon... Yeah!

    I've already a headstart on reading the exhaustive driver manual as I was able to locate a pdf version from this forum, all that was require was a search, great stuff!

    But I will be sad to hand over my Highlander, will miss the interior roaminess and how handy this car was to haul stuff inside.

    What's sad about trading from 15mpg to 50+mpg? Of course, you'll miss the 'ole highway cruiser, but congrats on a new world of technology, MPGs and low emissions. And the ride comfort and cargo capacity ain't so bad, either.

    IMO, what's interesting about your transaction is that dealers are willing to negotiate in sight of rising fuel prices. Nice to know you have a dealer not wanting to rape and pillage. Good job on acting quickly.

    Here are pics from my new ride. Got it late last evening, so couldn't post any earlier. We had some errands to do today and then took couple pictures of it.

    Drives well and feel most comfortable, me like it so far!!!

    Congrat! i own a Touring Blizzard pearl white in Montreal!

    In Montreal since there is no hill i get better gas milleage! But at home i end up getting 5.5 5.8 liters!

    Little bit disapointed but hey its winter time!

    You made me go out and look them up and they are right where they should be. The colour of the car and the pimple of them gizmos blends quite nicely, so almost invisible.

    One thing I guess is not avail in canadian model is LKA or Line Keep Assist, but not really certain. Maybe one here could confirm that.

    It's there. It's just below the reflected snow area on the bumper. It's hard to see, but it's there.

    Yup. No LKA. There's no camera above the rear view mirror, near the overhead console area.

    Congrats!

    Did registration for new plates slow down in the past two years? When I was there, I had a BDJD plate and two months later, it was up to BFxx and two years later, it's only at BLxx?

    Tideland - It is still a considerable amount of vehicle registrations and if my math (not my forte) is correct, its approx 4,051,944 license plates that were issued since your time!

    Just about 1 week now with my Prius, will be fueling real soon... maybe tomorrow. I will post mileage (stats) off that first tank then but I expect a 4.9 avge. Not as good as I expected but I have to remind myself that my commute to/from work is 90% highway and reminder is city driving. Once off the highway I'm mostly using battery up to where I park :p

    Heck, even my spouse likes to drive it :clap2:
