I am currently driving a 2010 Prius and I am having a problem w/ the passenger cup holder. It doesn't want to hold either a cup or can in the upright position (contents spill) I reviewed the owners' manual, it didn't offer any solutions. Am I missing something? Is there an aftermarket accessory or solution I could look into?

Any help, advice would be helpful.

    Thank you,

Which cup holder are you referring to? The two in the center console are in line with each other, so I'm not sure which would be the passenger cup holder (although I haven't had any issues with cups spilling in either of them). The ones in the passenger and drivers doors are only for bottles and not cups or cans... if you're trying to put a cup or a can in the door then that might be part of the problem.

Yes, please confirm with of the passenger cup holders you are referring to? There are at least 5 spaces a passenger could use as a cup holder. There are two between the front seats, one the passenger door (the one in the driver door I am not including, as that is the only one I would term 'drivers' cup holder, otherwise there would be 6 in the car), and they have two in the rear for the rear-seat passengers (or long armed from seat passengers.

I've used all of them without issue, as have my kids, on many bumpy roads and 'sporadic' stops and go's without issue.

I put in a piece of grey inch wide three eights thick self adhesive insulation foam that made the cups I use fit snugly.

The one in the doors are great for a bottle of water but thats about it!
If you look real close at the door panel it has a stamped bottles only
    no cups!
the cup holders for the center console are just ok! the one with the flip door I use, and the passenger(my wife) uses the one behind it when you slide the armrest back. One on each end of the dash like the Yaris would be nice.

two more in the middle of the massive wasted bridge space would be perfect.

So Sorry for not being more detailed in my post. I meant the center console, rear (arm rest) slider area. There seems to be no cup or can restraintin place. Its' like putting a cup or can in the storage area (under the arm rest) and hoping nothing spills or tips over going thru a curve.

    Hopes this helps,

I do not know what you are doing, but I find it holds cups and cans just fine, as long as you have the liner in place.

You do have the liners in the holders, don't you?

The passenger cup holder in the bottom of the passenger door is designed to hold the plastic water bottle with cap on. It will not hold cans and cups. At least this is what I read in the owner's manual.

Sounds like it's missing the "rear console box pocket", which I would normally call the "cup holder."

If they called it a "cup holder" everyone would know what the heck they were talking about. That would take all the fun out of it for the manual writers.

There is a removable plastic holder that should be present in this area - it is removable so it can be cleaned but it sounds like it is missing in your vehicle...

Do you have the cup holder in place? Mine is pretty snug and does just fine. Try and reseat it to make sure it is snapped in correctly.

imagine if they took the huge area below the shifter (where the current single cupholder is) and created a beautiful storage area with two cupholders and change holder etc. that would be brilliant! oh wait, it's toyota. only brilliant engineering, not interior design.
