The report doesn't proclaim that at all.

While the fatalities per million miles for Prius is 1/2 the national average, Prius certainly do get in wrecks. What would you hope to learn from a Prius that has been in a wreck? How would that differ from any other car that is wrecked?

In terms of gas I have saved $19,258 over 128,000 miles of driving my Prius vs. my 14mpg Silverado 4x4.

Gas cost per mile with $3.50 gas (ignores any premium fuel requirement)

    50 mpg = 7 cents

    versus

    10 mpg = 35 cents
    15 mpg = 23.3 cents
    20 mpg = 17.5 cents
    25 mpg = 14 cents
    30 mpg = 11.7 cents

What exactly would you have me do to them besides inspection?

Every couple of years I will do a quick stop if one has not occurred naturally to take the rust off. Brake fluid should be bled per recommendations.

But for me, the brake pads are probably 250,000 mile items, maybe twice that. Rarely used significantly above 7 mph.

Yes, I read it & watched the video. Do you need a synopsis? It's not too long to begin with.

My last car was 36mpg across 35k, and the prius is running at ~72MPG across 17k miles so far. Petrol is £1.39 a litre ($8.25 a gallon)

    17,000 / 36 = 472 gallons, £2,970 ($4,765)
    17,000 / 72 = 236 gallons, £1,485 ($2,382)

If i ran it for 200,000 miles

    200,000 / 36 = 5,555 gallons £34,944 ($56,154)
    200,000 / 72 = 2,777 gallons £17,497 ($28,077)

So my prius has so far saved $2,382 in fuel and $545 in road tax which covers any kind of hybrid premium. I've owned it less than a year. if it hits 200k (or more accurately if i don't buy an EV before i hit 200k) i will save $28,000 in fuel and $2,782 in road tax. that's assuming fuel doesn't get more expensive, which let's face it, it will.

So Tpfun, you seem deeply skilled in both mathematics and logic, how many bumpers, or batteries, or transaxles, or indeed complete priuses can i buy for $30,782?

The video and unattributed quote in the OP are not from CR.
