    All,

There are SO many redundant rattle posts across this forum. Most of us have them (I have many), so I thought something like this might be very helpful.

Instead of going through hundreds of posts to collect a nugget here and there about where the rattle is and what members have done to address them, lets posts the locations and fixes in one unified thread. Pls. no comments about how Gen III rattles more than Gen II, or how Toyota missed the mark, or anything like that. There are plenty of redundant threads for that kind of stuff.

Pls. use the following format to help us understand, infer conclusions, and potentially fix or lessen rattles !

    A. Model
    B. Build date (from driver door placard)
    C. Rattle Location
    D. Rattle Description
    E. Fix

    Thanks all.

Moderators: perhaps it's time to dedicate a sub forum to interior/exterior noises. It could even have stickies on real solutions to noise issues. Then all posts and threads about this issue could be moved there.

Thank you for posting this, I'm so frustrated with my rattles and don't know how to fix them!!! So far I found in all post these list of rattles:

    1) Center console area around gauges
    2) Upper console speaker covers
    3) Back sits latches
    4) Under gloves compartments
    5) Center armrest cover
    6) Back Hatch/Trunk
    7) Fly by bridge

Some people have areas worst than others in my case the speakers located in upper console area are the worst!! still have 1,2,3,5, a little on 6 and 7

My dealer told me to leave the premises because the technician was offended due to my complains and unhappy attitude, here in Florida I believe we need to fix the problems in our own!

I will post Manufacture data today

Thanks again! for posting this! Hope Toyota helps us with a future TSB, seems that 2011 prius have rattles too?

HUH ??? So now a freakin' TECHNICIAN is dictating who stays and who goes at a Toyota dealership, and what is, and what is not repaired on a brand new car that a CUSTOMER has just spent $20K+ on ? I would IMMEDIATELY escalate this to EVERY SINGLE LEVEL of the Toyota infrastructure. If they treated me like that, I would dedicate every spare second of my time trying to get that dealership in the most amount of trouble with the mothership that I possibly could.

This is almost such an absurd statement, that I'm almost disinclined to believe it. There is ALWAYS 2 sides to every story, so I have to believe that there are other facts that may not have been revealed here. What was YOUR attitude ? Were you rude, abrupt, condescending ? I'm not saying you WERE, but something else has to be going on with this situation.

I can't imagine Toyota condoning this type of customer treatment, and if it did happen as described, you can damn well believe that I would be talking to EVERY SINGLE NEWSPAPER and media outlet that I could find about this incident. As well as every level of Toyota management. Maybe even make a YOUTUBE video about Toyota customer service, and hope it goes viral, or at least tell Toyota that you're going to do that. One way or another, MY CAR WOULD BE FIXED. There is NO WAY that that kind of treatment would stand with me ....

Regarding the 2011's rattling as well ... they're the exact same car with a different letter on the VIN number .... that's it .... why would anything change appreciably, unless they made incremental changes during production that would 'quiet them down', which I have no doubt that they did, or are trying to do ?

I agree we should get a sticky for rattles ... not for discussion ... but for symptons, and fixes .... with as many illustrations as is possible.

Hi Revhi Yes I made a mistake to get piss too!! and told the technician if I was another customer I would come back and kick their buts !!

This happened after almost leaving the dealer for a test drive and the car rattling after hitting the first bump! before that the service guy call me at home saying "Hey dude my guys are saying your car has nothing!!" the typical monkey business here in Florida to scare some customers away or Toyota arrogance.

I will go later to another dealer and try to fix some of the rattles by myself when I get a chance, you know I'm a forensic/designer engineer for many years with tons of experience in all fields from electronics, computing, programing, power, etc.. and I can tell you Toyota is suffering from maximizing profits which is a common decease around here in the US too!

    Tanks for your input!

I paid 30K+ my car is a 3 but has some extras; solar/sun roof , dimming mirror, bumper protector ,etc..

If you are good at solving Chinese puzzle boxes (no disrespect to Japanese designers), you might be able to solve many of the common rattles by removing your dash piece by piece. I suggest getting the pdf version of the 2010 shop manual (7400+ pages!). It goes into graphic detail on how to disassemble each part of the dash until you have all of the plastic off the infrastructure. Then felting, or in my case, silicon greasing can be done to rid each rattle point where the prongs meet the slots. You would not believe how many sub-components make up the dash.
The "Rosetta stone" or first piece to remove is the shifter bezel (or as Toyota calls it "garnish piece"). Once that is removed, you work your way up the console towards the main dash. Good luck.

I'm not sure the download is still available, but here are contacts to inquire:
