Which is better, a 2010 Prius III made in Japan or USA?

Right, the only two things that come out of the exhaust pipe are Jack Daniel's and flowers.

I would never buy a vehicle out of NUMMI. When considering a Corolla or a Prius, the place of manufacture played a role. If I was going to buy a Corolla, I would prefer it come from Japan. If not Japan, then Canada.

When we bought my moms 07 Camry, we made sure it was from Japan. We have had no problems. Coworker has an 07 Camry built in the U.S., nothing but problems. Has only 45k miles on it and the water pump has been replaced. Now it needs struts on the front. It has had many other problems as well.

My friend just traded in this.

ETC, you probably liked the Mazda because 80% of Mazdas sold in the US are made in Japan. I don't have a problem with made in the US. Had plenty of cars made in the US, its not the workers, its the management that sucks.

 

Actually, the made in the USA Prius uses a flux capacitor. The only problem is it's not very fuel efficient because it requires 1.21 jigawatts of power to actually run, and weird things happen at 88 mph. Plus I hear it has crappy traction control, and gets horrible mileage in winter.

It *was* supposed to use Plutonium from Libya. Due to Libya's current troubles, Toyota has quietly canceled the US made Prius.

 

Yup.... My Protege and Miata were both made in Japan. My more recent vehicles have been US built not because of Q/A, but because the price deltas between foreign flagged builders and their US counterparts are not justified by the value of the end products.
My last 6 GMs have been almost exactly as reliable as the Toyotas, Nissans, and Mazdas that they replaced.
Japanese cars are great---they just priced me out of the market. I'm not xenophobic in my car buying, but rather I tend to buy inexpensive cars and replace them every 3-4 years.
That's just how I roll.
There's anecdotal evidence that suggest that US cars are gold or crap....depending on who you talk to.
There is a quantifiable difference between the build quality for manufacturer X over Y, but there are also corresponding price deltas as well...and they tend to follow one another.
If money were no object...I'd be driving a much different car!

 

Wonder how long it'll be before Toyota will be able to resume building Priuses. And once they get the factory running again, what about shipping them. I bet there's going to be one heck of long wait for a 2011.

 

The factory is back up and running and there is a good amount of 2011's on the Market.

 

Just a quick tidbit for you; if you want to know where your vehicle is made, just look at the first digit of the VIN number.

If your VIN starts with 1-5, this is North America (USA/Canada/Mexico...ect)

If your VIN starts with J, this is Japan.

With this, there is NO DOUBT where it was made.

Now, does anyone have a Prius with the first digit a 1-5?

I recon I could be incorrect and misinformed. I thought saw in one of the tsunami or earthquake threads that the factories were back up and operational. My bad.

Except for those Prii made in Thailand for Thai market and the Hybrid Auris made in the UK.

 

Knew about the Hybrid Auris - which serves all of Europe and starting this month Israel as well but am surprised the the Thai market has it "own" Prius

 

The Thai-built Prius will be exported to other markets, first the Asean countries, then other right-hand drive countries. Thailand has a history of autos/trucks built for export. BTW the new Nissan March is currently being built in Thailand for the Japanese market.

 

I'm assuming the U.S. Prius becomes a hot commodity because of limited supply, if any, due to the Japanese Prius factory closed. A start-up doesn't look good for anytime soon. A possibility is that Toyota will speed up plans for a U.S. Prius production line. It's a possibility; and then what happens to quality? (I just had to throw that in!)

 

I toured the TMMK plant in Georgetown and was very impressed! I would have no compunctions about buying a car made there. I personally saw Hybrid Camrys being assembled. They did say the batteries still currently come from Japan.

 

I have an 03 Tacoma which had it's rusty frame replaced by Toyota. I saw the bill to toyota from the dealership. Parts and Labor was $13,654.00 PLUS $2,750.00 to Enterprise for a car rental. It took them 70 days to replace the frame. Total bill $16,404.00. I told them when I bought the truck in that I would take 10k for it but was turned down.. Oh well

 

they wish they were making them in the usa now, and so do we!
