After 3 nice years with our Prius my wife was in an accident today, so that's provided the final straw to actually get me to register!

First off I'd like to give a hearty thanks for all the technical knowledge I've gained from all your posts. It seems that I came in pretty late in the overall game for the Prius, and that most all my questions were answered by someone or another without even having to ask!

Vital stats... 2002 Prius was purchased in 2007 with 145,000 miles or so and was totaled in 2010 with 185,000. The only major issue was the coils gave me a random misfire code in 2 of the cylinders, and after getting a set of ebay coils that went bad (it was good enough for long enough that I got it past inspection last year) I swapped the old coils back in and it ran fine until this afternoon. I was going to have to swap out the catalytic converter as the CEL was on and threw a code to that end, but now I guess that's not the big problem! Overall it was a great car that required no maintenance other than regular oil changes.

We were told that it had a recent traction battery replacement when we got it 3 years ago, and the car usually averaged about 43mpg even in it's old age.

The accident... My wife was crossing traffic and missed seeing a Nissan Pathfinder and took a 35(ish) mph hit squarely in the drivers rear quarter/door area, pushing the top of the tire in and warping the main strut between the wheels. It was towed to a friends house where it'll sit until we can decide what to do with it.

I'm vaguely interested in parting it out, but don't want to have it hang around the house too long. Can anyone tell me if there is much of a market for used parts from these older cars? It will still actually move under its own power, but won't likely ever be a driver again.

Thanks again for all your great tech info over the last few years. My wife is sitting across from me right now scouring the internet for her next Prius!

Adam, it is unfortunate that this is your first post. I want to say "welcome" but at the same time I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
I can't speak to the point of what to do with the car but am seriously impressed with the 43 mpg Gen1 with 185k miles.
Keep us posted with what you decide.

the traction battery, inverter and transaxle will have some residual value, a couple $k's altogether. other than that i don't think there's much demand for parts.

So sorry for the loss of your car. Good to hear that your wife survived the accident.
You've piqued my interest. Here's what I need:

    Antenna mast
Original Driver's floor mat (If in good condition.)
    Owner's Manual
    Rear Ashtray
AM FM Cassette Stereo and CD
    Positive terminal battery hookup
    Space saver spare tire
    If possible, gas flap?

A sad day indeed. I had similar feelings about my first car, when it bought the dust. After the accident, it would still start, and even move, but the frame was bent.
PM me, or let me know what you want for each part. I can even give you a shipping address if you want to figure out shipping for me.
