    Hello!
    Pulling the trigger and getting rid of my 17.9mpg premium gas suv :(
    Looks like the Prius is my best option. Narrowed it down to a 2010 III w/nav new $24,583 or certified 2010 V w/22k miles for $24,393.
    Thoughts? Checked usaa.com, etc, and the prices seem good. Thinking that the Toyota Care & 0% financing put the new one in the lead. Not so sure what the V has (other than leather) that would be an advantage over the III.
    Anybody out there who wishes they hadn't gone with a Prius? Looked at the VW Jetta TDI but too much $$$.
    Any advice regarding which Prius to choose (as well as opinion on price) is much appreciated, as well as any input regarding choosing a hybrid in general...

    I got rid of a 200 Honda w/ a v-6 much like you. Bought a 2010 Prius III in january. Love the car but the interior fabric leaves something to be desired. I'm concerned about staining and durability. I'm paying $800 for good seat covers. The only other thing I don't like is the mag wheels w' hubcaps. That may just be me...

    The V should have leather, larger wheels, and might have tech pack but with the price I doubt it.
    Either would serve you well and you won't find many dissatisfied owners on this site ;)
    I'd get leather but that is a personal preference.
    Congratulations on a wise purchase plan.
    PS The VW would also require higher priced fuel and might have a less desirable later life repair record.

    Are the prices (24,583 2010 III w/navi & 24,393 certified 2010 V) in line with what I should expect to pay? Thanks again for the helpful input!

    I did see the 2011 bought in Maryland. Think that was without nav....
    What about the difference in model year? Anything significant enough to pass up 0% financing on a 2010? Thanks again!:)

    Considering both are good for 400,000 miles . . .

    Go for the one with the most options, the V, but if you're the type to change his her car every 3-4 years, go with the new.

    No real difference in the model year... other than the fact it is a model year newer. 0% is nice, but I have had bad luck with nearly every used car I have purchased.

    Correct, she did. I was referring to the other post to which she was directed (The Prius purchase in MD... that author did not say NAV).

    Are they doing 0% on the 2010 even though it has as many miles as it does?

    I think you will be happy no matter which decision you make. 0% is nice though.

    The 0% is good for the new 2010 III. The certified 2010 V would be 2.9%.....

    Reading through the forums and keep running across people talking about keeping the prius warm. ????
    not sure what I am missing....

    Ah, thanks for reminding me! When I purchased it was between a new 2010 V and a certified 2010 V.... I went for the 0% on the new, but it was an easier decision since they were both basically the same car.

    As far as fabric seats go, I just make a habit not to eat in the car. I might do it while stopped, but even then, I'd have a big bunch of something to catch crumbs.

    You could save about $1,800 and go without the navigation, use a portable Garmin when needed.

    As for backup camera, in my opinion, it is really only needed when trying to back up close to a car behind (curb parking) or backing near a wall, etc. I had a 2009 Prius with backup camera, everything and convinced myself backup camera is necessary. It is not. Looking at all mirrors, turn of the head is all that's needed.

    The V has the 17" and the tires will cost more when worn out. It rides firmer than the II - IV.

    On the used V, look at the manufacter date on the emblem on driver door. Keep in mind they were first mfrd. about May, 2009, so would you want one from the first few months of mfrg. if that's the case.

    Far as Prius goes, it's easy to drive and of course amazing on gas.

    Basically in my 2009, I would drive 400 or more miles, go to the gas station and fill up on 8 to 9 gallons. and the 3rd gen Prius does a few more MPG's.

    Not the most stylish car, different than anything out there, but it's easy to live with. The smart key and push button start save time and hassle - just reach for door handle, unlocks, buckle up, push button, 3 seconds later it's powered up, flip it in gear and go.

    The electronic shifter is really nice. Never a mechanical clunk.

    No shifting of gears. The gearing train is all one speed. Never feel shifting like in an automatic transmission.

    Going down a steep hill? No problem, but into 'B' gear, engine spins up to control speed. Don't have to guess what gear to shift down into like on an auto transmission.

    Millions of Prius' sold. You'll appreciate it.

    2010 and 11 are virtually the same. No difference.

    Have a look at the build date on the 2010. The placard in driver's doorwell.

    Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Announces Prices for 2010 Prius / Toyota has some easy to read tables of the models and packages. The prices are old though (they're higher now). There were no significant changes w/the 2011 model year.

    FWIW, if I were in the market, I'd probably go for a model Two or Three w/o nav. The nav system is simply too expensive compared to what decent/good PNDs cost now and the updates are too much as well.

    The V (Five) will have a slight mileage hit due to the 17" wheels.
