Just wanted to say hello, greetings from the beautiful Eden Valley and thank you for the invaluable info gleaned from all you Prius Chatters. Result - collected a 2006 Toyota Prius t Spirit in Astral black with 50k miles last week.

It's for the OH because she's been finding our cars a bit cumbersome on our roads and in the small local Cumbrian towns.

So on Monday, its first trip out, to Kendal, 24miles. Drove into the car park and stopped. 67.4mpg (UK) indicated. Could not believe it. Wasn't even trying. And only £10 per annum car tax.
So if things continue like this I or rather my wife will be a really happy Prius owner.
Only downside so far, well two really. The seats. I've never been so uncomfortable in my life so I'll have to get that sorted asap probably lumbar support or wedge or both.

Other problem is a terrible smell when A/C is on but I might be able to sort that out by replacing the cabin filter. Previous owner must have had a terrible foot problem.
Hope I manage to post in the right place My last one went awol.

Excellent, that is 56 miles / US gallon which is quite good.

Yes, the seats are not world-class and won't win any prizes.

It is likely that mold has accumulated within the air conditioning system. (Or if you are really unlucky you might find a dead rodent on top of the cabin air filter.) A search will reveal several posts on the subject along with the potential remedy. Good luck.

Thanks for that, Patrick. I'll be having a look at the filter as soon as.

Glad you like the new motor. You'll find this forum a mine of information - and a lot of it's useful too :) A new cabin/pollen filter is about £12 from your local friendly motor factor or about £30 from a Toyota dealers.

Not just our American friends on here either, as there are friendly Prius owners from all over the world.

(p.s. Just incase you didn't realise - a UK gallon is bigger than a US gallon 4.5 litres to 3.7 litres.)

Thanks Flaninacupboard and GrumpyCabbie. Yes I did know about the difference between US gallon and Imperial. I've a Toyota Dealer on the auction site selling the filters for about £12.

Don't see many Prius around here. In fact I only know of one in Appleby and also a Civic hybrid. Neighbour had one for some time that he converted to lpg. Money equivalent of 90mpg. He's swapped it now for Lexus hybrid.

Lovely place Harrogate. I've visited several times. How many miles on yours now, GrumpyCabbie.

Only upto 43k miles at the mo.

There's quite a few Prii in town here but I guess Harrogate is a small part of California (mentality wise) in the UK!?! There are loads of gen 2 & 3 Prii and the odd gen1, though oddly I've not seen one of the early Jap import Prius.

    1) If there are any intrepid owners of the original Prius in your town, their cars may be in the garage while the owners scrounge around to find 240 replacement D-cells...

    2) The lack of parts, English-language documentation and diagnostic tools that can read the OBD bus also do not help to improve the car's uptime vs. garage queen time. Those cars should have remained in Japan...
