War is not waged by the United States to achieve political, ideological or "humanitarian" ends, and the United States is very careful to avoid accidentally making any such ends any more tangible than the words of its speeches, proclamations, press releases and promises. War has but one purpose and one purpose only: keep the Military Industrial Complex a growth enterprise. An economy even so brazenly looted as ours still has pockets of risk so it's vital to maintain one sector of the economy absolutely risk free and consistently generating high ROI. Put your dollars into Lockheed and Halliburton and sleep soundly. If you can sleep.

I think George Carlin had it about right when he said government was the entertainment arm of the military industrial complex. I used to think he was just crude, but I've grown to appreciate his wisdom.

We have money to bomb Libya, but the Republicans voted to "defund" NPR as a cost saving measure. We spent trillions in Iraq, but no money to repair bridges and levees in the US. I'm not enamored by the Democrats, but I have absolutely no use for Republicans.

How about investing in residential real estate around military bases.

Remember how hard it was to get Saddam?

I would suspect the intent is destroy the Libyan Air Force and their army, then what's left will finally fear us more and overthrow Gadhafi.

Cut social security, definitely, and welfare and all those other programs and subsidies that take money out of my pocket and give it to poor people who are too lazy to get a job. But cut funding to the war effort? What, are you crazy?! The barbarian hordes are already at the gates. We need more security, more border defences and patrols, more weapons, more sophisticated weapons, and more troops! These things cost money - don't you care about your country?

Good thing you added the /sarcasm tag, otherwise your post would be indistinguishable from some posts in the online version of our local newspaper.
