More will come out later I am sure of it...

Unfortunately... the workers in there cleaning this up will bear the brunt of the sickness that will come in the future...

Too bad the execs in charge aren't being made to go in there...

Very impressed by how quickly they rebuilt the road that was destroyed in a matter of days! It would have taken weeks, if not months, in the US.

People warn me of the rapture all the time, I do not take them seriously as I asses the "threat" to be minimal to none.

Whenever something happens, there is always the guy who said "I told you so" and then history seems to believe they were forewarned. The risk was small, so they ignored it. The risk of alien invasion is also small, and they also ignored it.

If we get pounded by martians tomorrow and they steal babies from supermarkets, you know there will be people saying "I've been telling you for years to wear your tinfoil hat and only shop in buildings facing due North". Then we will have had warning and obviously ignored them. So shame on us...

There WAS a huge tsunami that hit Sendai in 869 AD. You can't say they were not forewarned by Mother Nature herself.

Well whenever California, Oregon, Washington, or Vancouver get hit by another earthquake this guy will be saying "I told you so". How many take him seriously?

You are right. Building a nuclear power plant on the Pacific Rim that wasn't designed to withstand the largest know previous Tsunami in that region was a bone-headed move. That's not Monday morning quarterbacking.

BBC News - Viewpoint: We should stop running away from radiation

I can see past the misguided media hype and base my opinion on fact and reason. Not "ooh it's radiation and scary". FYI, I have been injected with radiation medically with the purpose of watching radioactive goo travel throughout my system and find a problem. I'm still kicking...

Since no one has all the facts in this tragedy it's reasonable to conclude that you're basing your opinion on assumptions. The radioactive goo is NOTHING like what is leaking out of the reactor.

Yes the goo is different, but the effect is similar.

You don't need all the facts to measure what is happening. And what is happening is very minor in the grand scale of things. Our "normal levels" are extremely low compared to safe levels. And it is still safe, just not normal.

Unfortunately the last few days have not gone entirely well at Fukushima dianchi. The onsite workers are taking a beating. IAEA via Reuters says that temperature and pressure in the 4 affected reactors had stabilized. But I wish that report had included P and T numbers! Earlier reported numbers have been very high.

Some or all of the emergency-cooling seawater must have been returned to the sea. While I have not seen any official report actually say that, it is really the only way to explain the seawater radiaoctivity levels that have been reported.

It is disappointing that no official Japanese radiological (map) assesments have yet appeared. USDOE has this:

The Situation in Japan (Updated 03/25/11) | DOE Blog

and a crowdsourced google map is here

    #geigermaps

Depending on the final 137Cs footprint on land, an exclusion zone may be unnecessary, small, or...not small. Here's hoping it will be only to the fence, or not far beyond.

At least 4 or these reactors, possibly all 6, will become concrete boxes. I doubt that anyone would bet against me on this? The Three Mile Island entombment cost $1 billion at the time, so $30 B may not be a bad estimate this time. On the order of 1/10 of the total earthquake/tsunami rocovery costs.

The Japan voluntary evacuation radius is now 30 km.
