CProAudio's got it. You have to change it before you set the speed.

I believe the object has to be moving towards/away from the vehicle. If a deer walks across with no away/towards movement, the radar will not see it (and that's the reason why DRCC won't work well in traffic as it will not stop the car if there is a stationary car at the traffic light. You will crash into that car!)

IDK about the deer senario the PCS may or may not engage. But as far as a stopped car goes if engaged the DRCC will slow the car down to the engagement speed threshold for the Cruise Control. Mine will decelerate down to around 23 MPH then disengage with enough time for you to stop the car the rest of the way. I have tested this while driving. What I did not do is see if I did nothing after the DRCC disengaged when the PCS would engage trying stop the car prior to collision and if it would be successful at doing it.

It will but only if the vehicle ahead is moving (even if it's moving at 5mph). I've tried it as an experiment last spring and it didn't stop (I had to brake fairly hard on sandy surfaces as we just got out of winter and they hadn't gone around sweeping the streets of sand).

PCS may brake but it depends. The video that another PCer made, testing the PCS with cardboard boxes had the car braking at the last minute. Of course he went through the boxes but the impact speed was lower. In other cases, I have glided/coasted up to a car making a right turn and PCS was beeping and flashing "BRAKE!" as I approached the car ahead. I was probably doing 15km/h or less (It engages above 10 or 15 depending on feature but I don't remember at what speed it disengages).

Non-radar (regular) CC finally worked for me. Thank you paradox and dustoff003 for your excellent explanations. Although the DRCC is great, I felt left out when I was unable to get regular CC to work. Like dustoff003 noted, my problem was trying to switch to regular CC after setting my speed using DRCC. Now that I know regular CC works properly, I'll probably never use it again, given the advantages of DRCC.
