Carrying/Towing Hobie Pro Angler

    This might seem like too specific of a question to ask, but I've searched and found posts on people hauling Kayaks and haven't seen one mention hauling a Hobie Pro Angler. I only ask because it's a little more than a regular kayak. I really need it to be a one man process of loading, hauling and unloading.

    I already have access to a trailer, but I am trying to determine if I should just get racks or buy a hitch and tow it. This kayak/boat is about 130 lbs. Even if it were a smaller lighter kayak I haven't seen anyone talk about loading and unloading from the roof Rack by yourself. Anyone out there have a Pro Angler? I would love to hear from you.

    I pack two Kayaks on my roof using Yakima roof racks. I see the hobiecat weight is 88 lbs.or about the same weight as my kayaks. May be a bit heavy to load by yourself so I would have a hidden hitch 1 1/4" receiver installed on your Prius and get a little boat trailer to pack the hobiecat. I have a tandem kayak and it weighs about 80 lbs. I load it by myself with the aid of a boat loader attached to the aft rack. It allows you to put one end up at a time. The lockable Yakima racks go on and off in just a few min. Make sure you get the deflector on the front rack , other-wise it can be noisy! Hal

    Thanks for the response Hal. I saw on a video that there are racks that have one end is telescoping to allow you to put one end on it then pick up the other end, but it is rather heavy. I have a decent sized battery in it too to run my GPS/Fishfinder. Thanks again. I think I like the trailer idea more. Seems like less hassle.

    Yes I think the hobiecat would be a bit much for roof rack. Originally I was thinking the weight was only 88 lbs. but looking closer I see it weighs over 140 lbs. A trailer would be the way to go! Hal
