    i All,
New to this and two dealers two different offers. Looking for advice. Option 1: 2010 Prius III (blue tooth, upgraded stereo) with floor mats included, silver (not my first choice) exterior- $23,253, .9% financing

Option 2: 2010 Prius II with after market adds by dealer (in showroom to show features they are trying to sell to people) including wood dash and navigation system, black exterior- $24,111, .9% financing

Fair pricing? Wish we could afford a III or higher or 2011 but doesn't seem likely-- do you think too much to play for a 2010? We like the .9%.... is blue tooth anything special? Stereo thoughts? Wood paneling? Nav system? None of these things are pulling me in either direction but also don't want to be taken for a ride...

Thanks SO much for your input.

    1. Go read the car buyer's advice given in the April issue of Consumer Reports magazine, online or in most libraries.

    2. Forget financing. Keep your current car until you save up the entire price of your next car. Cash in hand gives you more bargaining leverage.

IMO, the Prius III is the best value especially if you want bluetooth for the cell phone. I'm not a fan of mods, so the wood dash does not appeal to me. Also, you could buy a Garmin/Tom Tom cheaper than the dealeradd Nav. I keep my TomTom in the center console; out of sight.

Someone said that saving up to pay with cash gives you better negotitating leverage, but that's not true. Since the dealer gets a finance kickback, they may want more because you're paying cash and they won't get their finance referral fee. Also, if it takes you longer (another year) to save cash, the price of the car probably increase. Paying cash is the cheapest total cost, but may not be the smartest use of your cash. Just don't get hooked into a 4-6 years of payments. If you have enough down payment, try to do a 36 month loan.

    JMO...

Welcome to PriusChat. Your ID says you have a II with navigation. Did you already choose and no longer need advice/feedback?

I would go with the III. I had to choose between a 2010 IV CPO or a new 2011 Base model. I went with the used 2010 because it was $700 less and had a lot of desired upgrades and in "like new" condition. Mine is Silver, too. Oh well. :-p

Good question! Thanks.... my husband filled out the user info and no idea why he said we already bought!!! No, we are not owners yet and SO thankful for everyone's advice. Now we have a new issue!!! 2011 Prius II in dark grey for $1000 less than the 2010 Prius 3 with the blue tooth/better stereo (financing plus a $500 off that they promised will end up making the payments on either the same).

Yes, agree with you on all- and yes, need it now so that's why cannot walk too far away. And now- more confusion... we are thinking of a 2011 II with no upgrades at a better price than both aforementioned. Augh!!! This is not easy... but we prefer the color at least..

Thanks for the tips- unfortunately, we'd never be able to buy cash only on a new car and don't have any more faith in making repairs to our old car nor a another used.

Congrats on your new 2011 Prius. What did you do with the old Prius? Did you get the low beam headlights working?

I'd take the 2011 if it's the same price (and payment) as the 2010. You can always manage add-ons as the budget allows, if you need them. :)
