I had the fortune to run around in a Gen I for a few years. I'm thinking about getting back into a Prius. My budget is $15K. Any pointers? age VS. miles? Any offers? I drive a mix of highway/street. I generally drive my cars till they "drop". I would like to hear stories about high miles achieved! I took a '92 Corolla to 275,000 miles, original clutch & motor! What is the drivetrain life expectancy on Prius?

    Welcome to PriusChat.

Based upon what I've discovered on PriusChat, I'd rather have a Gen 3 because of the technology. I'm new to Prius, and plan on driving it until I get 200K. I can't find any reasons why it won't last that long or more. I'm certainly not concerned about the hybrid battery and besides the warranty for it is tremendous. Check out Toyota Pre-Owned Certified for a good 1 or 2 year old Prius and see how pricing compares to your budget. Because of rising fuel costs and the Japan crisis, Prius prices seem to be taking a slow turn upward.

Good luck as you continue to research.

That right there is going to limit you to a Gen II or even a Gen I. I say, just find a Gen II that may have quite some milage on it, but was well cared of by the owner (non-smoker, no kids/dogs, etc). You are not going to be able to be picky, though...

    Happy hunting!

after a day of hunting around, I have to agree. Best I can do (right now) is a II with 50K on it, and they disappear rapidly. Going out tomorrow to see what I can bag even if I have to stretch the budget to get into one. Woe to the slow! :)

Hayward Toyota sent a letter last week saying they were very interested in buying back my 2009 Prius which I sold in January.

When I called today to ask a question, first thing they asked is 'are you calling about the buyback event'.

Prius demand is heading North as you know.
