Does anyone know if or when the DRCC and LKA Advanced Technology Package will be offered in anything less than the Package V?

This is a really great option for someone who drives a ton of highway miles like I do but I really don't want the stupid 17" wheels that come with it. Yes, I know Toyota claims the 17's are required because of the "extra weight" of the advanced tech package blah blah blah ... The whole 150.67 lb. difference is ENORMOUS <sarcasm intended>.

I know I could change the tires after purchase but then Toyota would claim the whole "Warranty Voided!!!!" issue because of "Aftermarket changes" .... again blah blah blah, LOL.

Anyway, if there is anyone out there that has any insight ... not a Honda Insight :p ... it would be greatly apprecaited.

    Happy driving,
    Chris

The 2011's just came out and it is not available in anything but a 5. It's too far off to guess if that will change for 2012, but I find it doubtful. I think they'll continue to reserve it for the 'highest' end Prii. But hey, ya' never know...

You'll have to wait til the mid life refreshment in 2012 or 2013 to find out. LKA is exclusive in the US market. There are no other Prii in the world with LKA besides the U.S. Just suck it up and get a Five W/ATP if you can find one. You can always sell or trade the 17" rims and tire with someone with 15" rims and tires. The V's 17" rims and tires are highly sought after. I'm sure you have no problems getting 15" rims and tires from someone. You'll get some money out of it too.
There's no weight difference between the II, III, IV, or the V. If there is, it's minimal but not 150lbs.
You are mis-informed about voiding the factory warranty if you replace the rims and tires. If it's true, the aftermarket industry would have crumpled a long time ago. There would be no SEMA shows each year.

Just take the wheels off and sell them and put smaller wheels on.

They can't void your warranty for that, people replace wheels on cars all the time. They can only void your warranty if whatever aftermarket component you put on has caused whatever failure is at issue, and they can only refuse to cover that particular issue. They can't just unilaterally void the whole warranty.

You'll be surprised. Granted, the base versions of each model won't have much of a difference (just add the weight of speakers to the III, the weight of leather to the IV and the weight of the 17" alloys to the V as you move up). It's the options that will add weight (10kg for nav, 30kg for solar roof etc)

I guess I should have put <sarcasm intended> after the warranty statement as well, lol. Just assumed it was implied with the blah blah blah ...

cproaudio, there actually is a weight difference with the Package V and Toyota themselves uses that bogus argument as to why the Package V can't have a moonroof. That has been noted on numerous threads here in PriusChat.

I guess the advanced tech will slowly trickle into the lower models as it becomes mandatory from Big Brother or becomes economically feasible for Toyota. I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything or had any knowledge of when this would be? My 2006 has 234,000 miles on it and I intend to make 300K at least and hopefully 400K before replacement so I'm not really in the market but was curious.

Thanks for all responses everyone :D

    Happy driving,
    Chris

Chris, I don't know who told you that but I bet it was a salesman. I just checked the OEM tires on Tire Rack and the 195/65-15 size is rated at 1279 lbs per tire, the 215/45-17 is rated at 1201 lbs per tire. So the extra weight isn't it, besides I am pretty sure the sun roof option available on the III and IV weighs more than the ATP on the V.

But installing the DRCC and LKA on another version would undoubtedly cost more than just buying a V to start with. I really don't think you could find a dealer willing to try it anyway, those are definitely not bolt on options.

Google is a good tool!:D It says the sunroof option ads 28kilos (61.7 lbs). I can't seem to find anything about the tech package's weight, but I did find this quote:

"In other words, the Solar Roof and the Advanced Technology packages are mutually exclusive. Why? Toyota executives told us that the combined weight of all those options put together would have put that specific 2010 Prius model into a different regulatory weight category."

30 Days of the 2010 Toyota Prius: Day 4, Equipment Levels and Packages

So if you take the reps at face value, looks like they didn't want to get into higher costs/regulation fees of a re-classified vehicle that's a premium option. Another reason could be that since it is such a premium option, Toyota isn't capable of introducing it at an effective cost level for less expensive models. Until the tech package features are more common, I'm assuming they'll remain mutually exclusive. When I was shopping for my Prius, I wanted Blizzard Pearl...and thought having a sun/solar roof during hot Atlanta summers would be a good option. You also have to keep your wits about you if you drive Atlanta highways, so I'd rather make sure I'm kept on my toes;) I have no regrets on siding with the solar package.

Your solution is really simple. Get the Five with ATP and sell the 17" rims. They're hot commodity and you'll get more than the price differential of the Adv Tech package less the 17" wheels. You can pick up the factory 15" + tires for next to nothing.

x2...and once you see it with 17" rims, you may not want to sell it! :)

Sarcasm is often lost on the internet LOL.

Yeah I agree, the 17s make the car IMHO...

One of the only reasons I bought the V/Five was because of the 17 inch wheels, the others were the LED headlights, somewhat useless fog lights, and the ATP equipment.

The solar panel moonroof is 30kg (~65lbs)
    The Prius V "package" (LED/17"/fog/headlight levelling sensors/washers) is 30kg (~65lbs)
Leather, nav, IPA w/ backup camera, DRCC & PCS add another 40kg (~90lbs)
