2010 Toyota Prius model II Head Unit Upgrade

    Hey Spidey! When you bought your PAC SWI-PS unit did you notice that the website doesn't show that this unit is compatible with a 2010 Prius or with the Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD HU? I really like your setup, but wanted to see if maybe something changed with the SWI unit to where it no longer works for us...?

    Thank you! IIRC, the website never showed compatibility with the 2010. It has to do more with compatibility with the HU than the car.

    Welcome aboard by the way. Are you planning this upgrade?

    Good to know! Are you still pretty happy with this Pioneer unit?

    Yes, I'm taking 2 kids, 1 wife and 1 sister-in-law on a road trip to FL in May. We'll need some entertainment, and the DVD player should do the job. I'll just need to get around the parking brake video interrupt issue before I can play movies on the go.

    I hope to add some knowledge to the forum soon as I've just started tinkering with things...

    Yes, very happy with the HU. I wasn't a pioneer fan before this unit either but it has very clean power and functions perfectly. The 4100 has been superseded by the 4200 now I think.

    Glad you have "1 wife". :) My boys did watch the movie "Cars" from the back and they said it was OK. Though they seemed strained to be able to look around the front seats.

    I wired a toggle switch to the interrupt wire (the other side to ground) to circumvent that issue. The switch is mounted under the bridge console.

    I finished up upgrading my dash speakers this weekend and added the document to the first post in this thread. Very happy with the upgrade.

    Didn't have anyone proof the document so if you find errors, please PM me with the corrections.

    Hey Spidey,

    Quick question. In the instruction document, you mention, "Please note that there is one plug on the car side that is not used (see “not used†in picture below). I believe this plug contains the wiring for the AUX input plug in the center console. You loose that function during this install, however, my HU included a USB wire plug that I could use instead".

    Since the AUX plug-in is disabled, did you also lose the power in the center console lighter outlet?

    Good question... I never use the thing so I don't know for sure. I will check on it tonight. Did you lose power?

    Doing the install this Saturday. I think I finally have everything I need to get it done. Looking at a parts diagram for the center console, the AUX and power outlet wiring run together. I use the outlet for charging the cell phone, kids use it to keep their games running on long trips.

    It's part 10 in the pic. 10 Harness, Console Wiring 82390-47010

    That is so funny... I thought you were revering to the outlet under the bridge. I forgot that there was an outlet in the console. lol

    Anyway, good news. The outlet (in the console) still has power when in ACC or Ready.

    Just wanted to say thank you spiderman for an excellent writeup. I installed a pioneer avic f900bt that I had from my truck with little to no problems. Still have to get a cheap ebay backup camera, but that will be a different day.
