Absolutely agree. Too few have realized this reality yet. The numbers grow but still lag too far.

Religious beliefs are definitely a real problem.

I hadn't read about it as a reason for the shutdown, though. What were the issues?

edit: After a quick read...abortion? The federal government was holding the entire country hostage over abortion?! When did the clocks start running backwards?

He just started another war and you want to cut spending? :suspicious: :twitch:

Obviously the problem is that we haven't spent enough.

If anyone has details on what's in and what's out of the final budget compromise, I'd like to know about them.

Programs of interest to me are tax incentives to alternative and renewable energy. Tax incentives to fossil-fuel industries. Both got media play during the budget runup.

    One background piece is here:

Budget hawks: Does US need to give gas and oil companies $41 billion a year? - CSMonitor.com

and there must be a multitude of others.

I have not visited the house of politics/house of pain. Therefore I do not whether the paradoxical nature of such incentive policies are under discussion there. By paradox I mean that alt energy TI are 'job-killing' and fossil energy TI are 'job-producing'. It would hurt my head to make that argument, so obviously I am ill suited to be an oil industry lobbyist.

I'll happily delete that last paragraph if it causes discomfort here.

Treb, get the President's middle name in that ISP sniffer sig! C'mon man, stretch your legs!

Silly me, I forgot how profitable wars are for those who wage them. Clearly I was showing feelings for the plebians who pay for them, and that's simply unacceptable. Forgive me.

More wars! More oil! More money for the rich!

    There. Was that better? :glare:

As is everyone else with a conscience and a well-developed sense of logic.

Perish the thought. A little - no, a lot - more discomfort in the pews is a good thing.

I was thinking more along the lines of the guys and gals fighting, not corporate profit although I'm sure that was a consideration on the Presidents mind. I'm not as certain that you thought of them though seeing as you didn't mention anything about them in your reply. :glare: Oh well the important thing isn't our fighting men and women it's profit, right?

it wasn't being held up by religion. the hyde amendment prohibits federal funds going to abortion. planned parenthood does it anyway, and we're sick of paying for it when we're broke. it's about the fact that's we're BROKE.

just because something is legal does not mean the government should subsidize it. booze is legal, but i don't see any reason the feds need to pay for part of my margaritas.

i don't see how it's the people's fault. unless you mean it 's our fault for no following the middle east in revolution. we have no other power. the ballot box is a choice of two of the same thing. what would you have the 'people' do?
