Is there a way to have a BLANK default screen come up when you start the car. I find all the animation and data bars a distraction. I know how to blank out the screen after using the settings mode, but as soon as I shut it down and restart, I get the animated screens again.

As far as I know, and that is annoying - there is no way to keep the display off after shutting down-turning on the Prius....
Another inexplicable software "feature" of the MFD.... :(

? Press the Display button on the steering wheel unit you cycle through to the blank screen. I am pretty sure that it will stay that way.

    Welcome aboard by the way!

I agree with you about the distractions of the MFD. My suggestion would be to go to the "settings" page as it seems to be the least cluttered screen of all.

What do you mean with "blank screen"? if you mean the "Settings" screen - that is not really blank and I don't know if the display will have the "settings" burned-in after a few days showing that continuously...

After 19 months with Prius, I am not even looking at the MFD anymore - I just check the 1-min consumption to check the average for my trip, and that's it.
Surely it helps to have the head-up display showing me the HSI bar on the windshield, but if that were not there, I don't think I would look at anything other than the speed and average fuel consumption.

^ there is a "blank" screen after the settings screen. And if you toggle through the TRIP options those displays will go as well.

Gulp! - I don't think I have it - from settings it goes directly to the energy monitor, then the HSI, then the 1/5min consumption screen, then the past record, then the rear seatbelt, and then back to settings - no blank screen here - unless I select the "screen off" setting.

And once you turn off/on the car, it will all come back up again.

If you have a blank screen, it means that the US version has one extra (blank) screen to toggle through?!?!

It may be because they are missing the seatbelt screen.

I know it sounds crazy. But if you don't need to know your speed & fuel level, you can adjust the dimmer all the way down. The whole display will just disappear (including your speedometer).

Could be because I have no idea what the "seatbelt screen" is.

My humble apology, I don't have a "blank" screen. Man, I could have sworn I saw one at one time.

Anyway, I did try the Screen Off option too and it just resets when I power up. I wonder though if this is something that can be done permanently through TechStream? Probably not since the SOC meter disappears as well.

I stopped by the dealership this afternoon.
They put it on the TechStream and tried to change it to a default BLANK screen with no luck. But they did adjust 'head lights on' display to 2 notched below normal, so at night I can turn down the display to just barely visible. I don't like a glowing display on the dash bright enough to read the newspaper by.

One more annoyance is the READY light, and the overhead spotlight that shines on the gear shifter - I may have to use black tape for both of them.

But that's only at night. Daytime you have no choice.

I have tried it today - if you set the screen to "off" it will turn back on when you turn on the car again. The only thing that was left was the clock in the upper right corner.
I think the whole purpose is exactly that: to turn it off during long night drives or for some other unknown reason...

By regulating the light intensity you can avoid having it illuminating the cabin in the evening and read the paper by it... ;) But I think Toyota would like you to have it on always.

I don't mind having the speedometer on, I just don't want the display to the right side of the cluster. (IE: animated motor, wheels - 1 min, 5 min fuel consumption bars, eco bar and stuff like that)

Then the dimming is your only solution then, or you keep the "settings" screen (hoping you don't get any "burn-in" effect).
I keep the 1min display and simply don't look at it - I mean, I have to look at the road...if you notice the movements, then set it to 5min display so that it changes left often ;)

But I understand your point - at one point I found it all distracting and wanted to turn it off as well. But after a while I got used to it and don't notice it anymore.

Well I fixed the READY light and the overhead spot light with black tape! Just couldn't take it anymore, I guess.
