I've been out of the loop, but I'm glad to see I could help some of you guys out - Still no luck with editing the boot screen - :( -
We still have the Rosen and my wife loves it... It's grown on us, so despite the shortcomings; it's still a pretty cool unit to have if you wanna maintain the factory look and easy plug-n-play functionality.

I first placed the GPS antenna on the top of the Rosen and slid everything in place. The GPS signal wasn't as good as I like so I took it back out and placed it level on the brace between the air vents. There is a wire holder there and I used that and the cross brace for the sticky backing on the antenna.

This raised it up in the dash and made it level and I'm much happier with the GPS signal.

Other than that, just take your time. It's pretty painless.

Just a couple of questions about the Rosen install. Did you disconnect the battery before you installed the unit?
On the Rosen wire harness there are wires for CDC Batt, and CDC Acc,
Back, CDC Gnd, what are these wires for, should they be connected?
    What does CDC stand for?
Thanks for the great install pictures and tips.

I did not disconnect the battery but it is recommended. You have to be VERY careful around the airbags if you don't disconnect the battery.

The back wire connects to the red backup light wire on the connector down behind the drivers left kick panel. It signals the Rosen that backup is engaged and to show the camera input on the screen.

I think ACC provides power to any accessories you might want on with the HU, like a power amp or if you wanted the camera on all the time you would power the camera from this point instead of off the backup lights. (I powered the camera off the backup lights red wire because I didn't want to wire all the way to the dash)

I'm not sure about the CDC wires.

Thanks for the responce prius2011Mike. If I disconnect the battery will I have problems restarting the hybrid system, or is it just like any other car? Seems like I read somewhere that if you change out the battery there is a procedure you must follow for restarting the Hybrid system.

Installed my Rosen head unit yesterday with back up camera, and Ipod hookup. Everything works great, sound is terrific, backup camera is top notch with distance markers. It comes on when in reverse, or can be turned on whenever you want it. Put GPS antenna on top of unit and get full bars all the time. Still playing with system, only thing I noticed is the screen washes out when sun hits it. Guess I will have to get a sunshade for it. Thanks for the great pics and advice, it made the install possible with minimal trouble.

Great to hear! Run into any problems that were not earlier discussed? I'm leaning more and more towards the Rosen unit. Which camera did you go with and how long was total install?

    Thanks! :)

I used the one supplied by Rosen, you get the camera , enough cable to route to HU and the special harness that goes in the back of the HU. I routed it down the left ( driver ) side of the car as it needed less cable to go this way. The Rosen camera uses S-video connections so the only wire you have to install is the reverse wire that is connected to the "back" wire on the HU. Power is supplied by the HU itself through the S-video connection. I had an old S-video female cable that I plugged the back up camera cable into and cut the end off the female cable leaving about 2 inches of cable, then I taped them together and used that to fish the cable up to the front of the car. In order to get the cable through the rubber grommet at the top of the hatch I had to put some
KY jelly on the cable, that made it a lot easier to get it through the grommet, but since the Rosen cable end was protected by the female S video connection I put on, it was not damaged. Then it was just a matter of fishing it down the side panel to the door sills and running it up to the front of car, the reverse wire is under the left front kick panel
in the white harness connector, there is a black retainer that must be pulled up to dislodge the connector, the reverse wire is number 29 counting down from the top in the middle row. There are pictures of it elsewhere in the forum. Just tap into that with a wire tap and route that wire with your S video wire up to the HU. I will take some pics later as I am pressed for time right now and post them here. Total time to install Rosen HU, and rear view camera, plus I-Pod harness, and USB cable was all day, as I was very carefull about pulling the trim panels off ,and had to improvise a few things along the way, plus I had lunch and took a few breaks along the way.

Here's some pics of the Rosen camera, and the pigtail I used. I just drilled a hole in the existing plug to run the S video cable through and mounted it over the plug. Camera is color, and has distance guide, and is very clear.

Has anyone figured out how to get the display to read the song titles off an SD card or thumb drive? I can't get it to do anything but play the music. It's annoying as he'll not to see what's playing and be able to select songs etc. Anybody?

No but this is really odd because if you go in the setup menu, it shows a listing under video settings.

It's next to the brightness, contrast controls for the screen.

Why there and not on the main audio screen, full sized?

Weird. I emailed Rosen support but no answer...

Yep, exactly. I'm noticing all sorts of crap I don't like about this radio the more I use it. It's all just programming stuff mainly.

    Fraychild,

Thank you for your awesome posts.

I have a question on this You-Tube video and the installation regarding the XM sat radio antenna. Every Prius comes with an XM sat antenna already built in. I just ordered a new Rosen unit which the dealer is installing in my new 2011 Prius IV. But they put an XM antenna with a cable on top of my front speaker grill with a sticky adhesive plate -- I told them this was unacceptable and they must hook up the internal Prius XM antenna. But this video does not show that and does not show any real Prius examples. How can one hook the Rosen up to the internal Prius satellite radio antenna? Thanks soooo much !!!

Wrong. Only a Prius with sat radio option installed has the corresponding antenna.

Read the posts here if you want to learn about locating your antenna in a different spot.

Are you sure this is the Sat radio antenna and not the GPS antenna? I work at a shop that sells these Rosen pieces, and usually, the GPS antenna comes with a metal plate to stick the antenna too. They actually recommend mounting it outside the car, but I've been successful with mounting it under the dash somewhere, as long as there's no metal blocking it.

Sat radio antenna, on the other hand should be mounted outside the car otherwise your reception will suffer. You can use the OEM antenna for that, you just need to run a cable to where the OE antenna plugs unto the OE sat tuner box. Rosen actually sells an XM antenna extension cable for this purpose. Otherwise, you can just splice an extension to the existing coaxial cable.

I have the SAT antenna mounted on the roof (magnet) over my windshield and the gps on the top of the dash. The SAT says Sirius on it
