Anyone have any experience with this new type of oil with the Prius?

I just bought a 2008 Prius (1st time Hybrid owner.) The car just had an oil change from the dealer with standard oil.

Id like to go synthetic for the next change and this promotion intrigues me. One, it seems environmentally friendly. Two, it supports a domestic green science company. Three, the price of free is excellent (after mail in rebate)

    Thoughts?

I'd be worried that if I didn't drive the car for a few months I might pull the dipstick and find that a worm farm had taken over the engine or something. :p

Wouldn't all that cholesterol increase the chance of heart failure? On a more serious note, what would using it do to your warranty? I know it's hard to tell the difference in weight when performing analysis in the event of engine failure, but it seems it would be fairly easy to determine if the oil you used was from animal fat and not 100 million year old dinosaurs!

What is "Synthetic Animal Fat"? Isn't that Crisco?

Of course it is possible that the OP meant "Animal Fat based Synthetic oil". That would be a different story.

They claim their oil is API rated. I checked the API EOLCS system and couldn't find them listed. I also don't see an API "donut" on their bottles in the pictures.:mod:

Until they can get their act together enough to do that, I wouldn't touch their oil a 10 foot pole. Engines are too expensive and good oil too cheap to start trying off the wall stuff in place of known high quality oils.
