Only have one master fob left, smart key sks system. Am going to purchase a used key from ebay having read various threads here regarding programming a used one - I realize I will lose the smart key function but will be able to start car with it.

My question is if, after I make the copy, and at some point end up losing my original - can I make another copy from the copy I made previously or can a copy be made only from the original smart key. Hope that question is clear enough .

    Thanks for the help.

SKS fobs cannot be copied. As pointed out above, the car is programmed to accept the fob, not the other way around. If you lose your last working SKS fob you will end up paying for a tow and an SKS seed reset, plus the cost of the new fobs. It won't be cheap.

I have another scenario. I bought a used 2010 Prius v with ATP. It was a used car place. Salesman gave me a fob. It works. I drove back 1700 miles! What I didn't realize was that it had no metal key in it!! That's missing! I called him and be said "that's how we got the car in" . So they said they have no idea about any key.
What are my options and cost?

Let me rephrase it them - if I go through the sequence to get my car to accept the used fob (with silver logo) such that the car will start when the used one is in the slot but the remote lock function does not work, can I then utilize the used fob to make the car recognize a second fob in the future by going through the sequence again?

Yes. This will work for dumb fobs, or programming a smart fob as a dumb fob. None of the SKS functions will be available.

Assuming you have the key code:

    1) Have a locksmith code cut a standard Toyota blank. This will open the door, but it will not fit into the fob. You will have to carry it as a normal key.

    2) Have Toyota code cut the special fob key. This will most likely cost more, but the key will fit into the fob.

    Without the code:

    1) You can do the same as above, but you will need to replace the lock cylinder. If you do that, you should get a fob key as part of the package.
