California is giving out 40,000 HOV stickers, beginning January 1, 2012. With over 1 million new cars sold annually in California alone, will PHV owners have any chance of getting a sticker if the shipments are delayed until Spring 2012?

I've made it known (to Toyota) I don't like the whole spring release of the phv for various reasons, but trust me, it doesn't seem that is going to change. Unfortunate, but its looking bleak for an earlier release.

Well, I think Toyota has the good sense to release the car by February 2012 just like they did with the CT200h. But if they were to release the vehicle in the spring or thereafter, it would seem to me that it is going to be a 2013 model.

Don't be so sure. I do not think it is going to be a 2013 model.

I also don't think they will surprise us with it coming our before the spring but that would happen before it's a 2013 model IMO.

The only Plug-in that gets these new 40,000 GREEN PLUG-IN stickers currently listed on the CA DMV website is ...drum roll... the Toyota Plug in Prius.. The Volt did not meet the emissions requirement (yet).

Eligible Vehicles - Single Occupant Carpool Lane Use Stickers
Green Clean Air Vehicle Stickers pending federal approval will be available as of January 1, 2012 and will be valid through January 1, 2015 to the first 40,000 applicants that purchase or lease cars meeting California's enhanced advanced technology partial zero emission vehicle (AT PZEV) requirements. Vehicles qualifying for this new sticker will be added to this website, however applications for the new sticker will only be accepted once the program begins on January 1, 2012. Qualifying vehicles purchased before the program begins WILL be eligible to receive the green decals.

The other potential is maybe about $3,000 Federal Tax credit (as stated earlier in this thread) .

If the CA (California) Clean Air rebate is still funded by 2012 there may be $5,000 there also (that one is a BIG MAYBE, given out state budget problems).

    About priority registration buying process!

I know it is about one year from now, but I was looking for information about previous Prius priority registration buying process. Hope that someone can link me to a previous thread or anyone who went to that process can explain how it is done.

    Questions related to:
Is the price set in stone when you order the car?
Meaning that it is going to be MSRP?
Dealer is allowed to only charge Dealer's fee?
    etc...

    1. No price yet
    2. Up to the dealer
    3. Up to the dealer

They have not done this except sort of in 2003 (I was not in that wave) ....I only purchased in Feb. 2004 (after waiting 4 months to get a car...and on 25 waiting lists in 3 states, plus paying over MSRP)

Too true, too true, unfortunately you need a WHITE sticker to actually be able to plug into a public EV charging station in California with our Plug in hybrids (prius or volt).

As a guess, 3 (Sept/Oct 2011). I'm guessing fall, and I think their site even mentioned the fall. August is too early I feel and December is too late.

I would be very surprised if Toyota allowed dealers to charge more than MSRP in this situation, since forcing you to specify a dealer eliminates the possibility of negotiation. Because of the early opt-in, I'm guessing there will be a set price. Since it is a limited production car, you are probably going to pay MSRP no matter what you do (whether or not you do the early opt-in).

Toyota gave a limited number of people the opportunity to have first dibs on the 2010 Prius, at a special discount, but it was by invitation only. For that reason, I wouldn't bet on a discounted price this time around, when there is going to be a much larger pool of buyers, of a limited production car. In the 2010 invitation only program, (i) you were not absolutely commited to purchase until you knew the price and sent them a 2nd stage confirming e-mail, and (ii) the dealer had to sell at the discounted price, without extras. In fact, I got the same discount on tint and accessories. I think they had people specify the dealer in the 2nd stage confirmation.

Has anyone else been continually denied access to the site where one signs up for pre-ordering? I have tried multiple times and get a message to "please try later." I have an " account" which was pointed out to me when I tried to bypass my original sign-in and start over. This is beyond frustrating!

That's a sensible rule. Without it, PHEVs, particularly short-range ones, would occupy them all the time.

Yes, the LEAF comes with a 110V charger. The only issue is the cost of the unit. The LEAF charger costs several hundred dollars so you wouldn't really want to use it if it's liable to be stolen (even if it's only for a laugh).

You might want to try again now. Looks like they changed the website (2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid) very slightly. The black "Register" button / link now says "register now" (in green). They may have been rolling out the changes to the servers when you were trying to register.
