An earlier post in this thread said 236K miles, so I doubt any warranty would be of use.

I always ask for the defective parts back. Bad starter? I want it. Worn Brake pads? I want it.

The only things you may not want back are your used oil or your worn tires.

Sometimes you see the technician gets a frown on his face. But it's your right.

It's like proof or check that something was actually done. And yes, you own it so you get it back. Unless it's covered by warranty, then the warranter (not warantee) owns it.

    If it's a diagnostic, get a printout.

If you get an alignment, ask for the printout. I got fooled once. Like GWB says, fool me once, shame on... um, you fool me you can't fool me again.

Do you know some people pay for oil changes, and they don't even change the oil or filter if the tech sees it's like 3000 miles in between or something?

I always ask for the parts. Not that I'm going to keep them for posterity, or know better than the shop where the fault lies. It keeps them honest, and lets them know I'm serious about my car. I've heard way too many horror stories of people getting huge bills for things that weren't even done. Not to scare you, but....I'd still be more comfortable knowing what the repair codes are. And really, the shop should know what they are before they start tearing your car apart.

Okay, I'm going in there when they call like one tough cookie who knows what she's talking about. I'll request my parts they removed as well as paper work on all the codes logged. Then they'll be like "Ohhhhh snap." and hopefully not screw me over just because I'm young, and a female. Plus, my mother talked my dad into paying for it so when it's ready all I have to do is call my parents for their credit card number. If it is a lot more, my mom will ALSO yell at these people. lol

With 236k miles, you have to go waaaay easy on the car. Hybrid or not. Any repair bill can be much greater than the value of the vehicle.

I always act dumb until the very end. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar :p

Just get the findings and post them here so we can help you figure out what to do.

Oh, I treat my car very nicely. I tell it I love it all the time. I don't slam on the gas. I love my car. Boyfriend on the other hand, doesn't give a s*t.

But anyway, good idea. I'll act stupid for a bit. They won't know that I'm a Prius Chat member and everyone tells me how to handle it!

Hey, there is some good news in this mess after all. You have some fine parents. Well, at least generous ones who still care about you - that counts for a lot. :)

I can guarantee you that you know more about the Prius than the service advisor, and perhaps even the technician!!!

That sounds more realistic. Did you tell them LB* did it?

If the dealership replaced the HV ECU and that didn't fix the problem, then you shouldn't have to pay for the new HV ECU or the time it took to replace it.

As it would not be cost effective to remove and reinstall your old HV ECU, the dealership is making amends by continuing to search for the problem free of charge. That's the problem with modern dealership shops - they don't fix anything, they just replace parts*. Given that it sounds like an electrical problem (which are hard to diagnose), the dealership's offer sounds like a pretty fair exchange. Let's hope they find the problem to be in an inexpensive component.

    * Reminds me of an old joke, where a big complex machine stopped running at a factory. The repairman came, tapped the machine once with a hammer and it started running perfectly. His bill was $1,000. The customer was shocked by the size of the bill so he asked the repairman to give an itemized invoice. The repairman wrote:

    Hitting the machine - $1.00
Knowing where to hit - $999.00

Of course I did but they both said it isn't his fault and thinks break on cars. It may not be his fault that something failed but I'm blaming him anyway.

Well the service technician wasn't there but the lady that was there said there's a bunch of parts taken from my car at the moment. I guess the guy will be there in the morning. This is irritating not knowing what's going on with my car.

"A bunch of parts"....hmm...that's informative. I guess she means it's not ready to pick up yet.

It's time for my next reality show: "Marathon for MelissaAnne". Single guys hypermile across the country (maybe two) guided by the retarded Nav Lady completing whacky stunts to win a date with Bayou Babe MelissaAnne. Who will win the Marathon for MelissaAnne?
