okay - now that I have your attention - I am a total newbie to this stuff...I am strongly considering getting a new Prius - I hope someone can help me with what I think are a few basic questions here, specific but basic. Is it possible to get the solar sun roof option AND the back up camera - searches seem to say it is not a valid combination. And what is the remote start option all about?

    :confused::confused::confused:

    Welcome to PriusChat:welcome:
Check out Edmunds.com. I think you need the Prius IV or higher plus the appropriate package to get the solar roof and back-up camera. Edmunds will give you pricing, packages, colors, etc. The remote start is option that is installed either by the dealer or the Toyota distributor. It seems that people who want the remote starter live in the cold climates. It remotely starts the car and if you have your defroster on, will help defrost and pre-warm the car. I don't have have any othe options you're asking about, but Edmunds will tell all.

Good luck researching your possible Prius purchase.

You can not get the solar roof with the Nav Package, which includes the back up camera. I would go with Nav.

With remote start you can start (and cool) your Prius at a distance. It is an Installed Option, not from the factory

I know that some will disagree with me but if it is between the solar roof package and nav package (back up camera) I will go with the solar roof package. I live in the North Georgia area so its far hotter than colder (usually) around here.

The backup camera is bundled with the nav unit. The nav unit is available by itself and it is included in the solar & adv tech packages. Your options are:

    Three Nav
    Three Solar
    Four Nav
    Four Solar
    Five Nav
    Five AT

The Region orders the cars so not all possible combinations are available to your local dealer. Go to www.toyota.com to build your car to see what is available locally.

Err... that's not quite right. If you get the solar roof package, it includes nav.

Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Announces Prices for 2010 Prius / Toyota is a good table of the models and options except the prices have gone up and Toyota has moved to spelling out the model numbers instead of the Roman numerals. You cannot get more than one package on a car, but you can see that the solar roof and advanced technology packages both include nav.

JimN is correct. The backup camera is included w/the nav unit.

I understand that the region orders the cars that they think they will be able to sell, I also understand that any "special order" is not an option right now with the recent earthquake/tsunami in Japan. So it seems that Advanced Technology Package is the package that includes the backup camera - correct? And further more that it is possible to obtain this package and the Solar Sun Roof option. Yes/No/Maybe

Someone did explain how the different regions decide what to order/make available. Unfortunately, some of us disagree w/their decisions and I can't find the post.

Please see my earlier link for the table. ALL packages that include the nav system (nav package, solar roof package and advanced technology package) ALL include the backup camera.

No, you cannot get ATP with solar roof package. Notice you have to go to Prius model Five (formerly known as V) for ATP and the NA next to solar roof for the Five? See http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...prius-option-packages-naias-5.html#post786779 about why. The Five has 17" wheels.

The cheapest way to get the factory backup camera is to get a model Three (formerly III) and nav package. This is assuming that this is an available combination in your region. If you want the solar roof and nav (which includes backup camera), go w/model Three and the solar roof package.

Yep. That's what I've got - a three with a solar roof and navigation package. It does have the back up camera. They are bundled together, however, my salesperson said every once in a while, a solar roof comes in without the navigation package.

That shouldn't be possible per the table I mentioned above. Also, when you go to The 3rd Generation Toyota Prius Hybrid and select Build Your Prius, when you get to Step 2. OPTIONS, after selecting model Three or Four, it says "Solar Roof Navigation (Includes Navigation Package)".

If your region says something different, please post a zip code for your area....

I would make one suggestion: take what you can get right now. Unless you live near a large population area with multiple dealers close by, there's not a great selection, and there won't be any time soon. The ones the dealers do get go away very fast here in oregon... go ducks

No, my region does not list anything different from the rest of the regions. I was just quoting my salesman that a few solar roofs have "slipped through" without the navigation package.

I think it's likely the salesman is wrong. This wouldn't be the 1st time we've heard of Toyota dealer salesman having a lack of Prius knowledge.

What the heck would the price be?

FWIW in March, I bought a new 2010 Prius IV with optional equipment (SY) with MSRP of $31,630. No 2011's were available. The SY package included Moonroof with solar powered ventilation system and remote air conditioning system. Voice activiated touch screen DVD Navigation system with JBL system 4 disk CD changer,XM radio, Nav traffic, bluetooth, USB, backup camera, SOS, and 1 year roadside assistance. XM radio and traffic was for 3 months. The SY package was MSRP $4,280.
At the time of sale there was a $1,000 rebate.
