Prius 2010 vs Lexus CT200h

    This "issue" is the first that i have read about on this forum...maybe i miss the multitude of folks complaining about the steering being off-centered....

    Whatever the case, i don't see nor feel that the steering wheel is any different (in terms of centering) than any other cars that i have had. You may, but you have a pretty good record of having issues with the smallest of small things! :D

    It's funny, but I never noticed it either in my 2009 or 3rd gen until I happened upon a site for tall people and how to deal with buying cars, etc...

    they had a 5 step test to check ergos in a car / see if good for one or not ...

    I was surprised to find both my 2009 and 3rd gen wheels are indeed slightly to the left. Funny thing is so many other Toyotas are not - Camry, Corolla. It's a little thing but makes one wonder who's checking the interior design.

    By measuring from brake pedal to steering, I found out Prius steering wheel only telescopes 0.5" closer to driver than 2nd gen. Some people like ggood complain it doesn't pull close enough. I know why. Again, kinda little thing, maybe should go under trivia. Would be nice if Toyota dotted i's and crossed t's in the Prius :)

    Camry, Corolla, Accord, etc.. are on about 8th gen, so it takes time to 'fine tune' a car. They got their 50 MPG, so perhaps they'll work details for 2016 model.

    If you did not notice it, then what's the problem? If it did not cause you to have rotator cuff injury, then what's the problem? This is where the internet can be a problem...lets make a mountain out of an ant hill!

    You actually think that Toyota, after spending a zillion dollars in development of the Prius, that they somehow missed how to properly placed a steering wheel or why the steering does not come out 1"?? You're insulting the engineers who design the vehicle...there's a reason for these things.

    Maybe the other cars (Corolla, Camry, Accords) are designed wrong...maybe they are designed for folks like you with one arm longer than the other. Have you gone to a physical therapist or orthopod to have your arms measured and confirmed that they are of equal length??

    On a more serious note, lets drop this stupid steering wheel theory...and get back on topic of CT vs. Prius. And you think that Honda crossed the t's and dotted the i's on your Accord? Hell no...just check your roof strength test! You probably have even more road noise than the Prius! :D

    The EU test is also on a dyno, but no correction/adjustment.
    You can say the EU test is more "scientific" in the sense of repeatability (by a third party). The EPA with the adjustment is probably more realistic to the average driver.

    Insulting their engineers? Challenging them, yes. It's prefectly ok to point out what one thinks is an abnormality. Is it normal that your door armrest is 3/4" lower than center console? No. That's easy to verify.

    As for Accord, might not want to diss it too much until Prius is selling 33k units / month. :D

    Ok...sure...and again, how does that stack up against Camrys? Apples to apples.

    Challenging them with legitimate concerns...not dumb ones.... Again, if your OCD personality did not notice the steering wheel "issue" in your 2009 Prius (and your testdrive of the 2010), and you certainly did not develop rotator cuff injury from it, then why does it matter? Could it be that Toyota felt that a small change like that is a none issue...and maybe there is an engineering reason behind it?

    Ok, here's a legitimate concern - I've seen several threads of 3rd gen owners taking out front seat bolts, placing a stack of washers to lift front of seat, then using longer bolts. Might those bolts be more likely to shear or bend?

    Hmmmm....I hadn't thought of that. (Using the longer bolts....not their sheering off)
    If you use the right kind of bolt, you're not going to have to worry about it shearing off---at least not in a crash that you're very likely to survive. I'm not sure what size or grade the OEM bolt is (I'm very sure that the sniveling, bed-wetting attorneys make them use decent ones...) but if you replace it with an alloy steel bolt----something like a 10.9 or a 12.9 it should hold you and your seat firmly in the cockpit.
    However (comma!!) I sling wires for a living, and "my" G3 is a fleeter, so I'm going to have to keep listening to my sciatic nerve screech at me every it gets torqued off at the seat.

    YMMV....

    Sounds like a good topic...but nothing special in any car. No car is perfect for all body types, especially one with limited manual adjustments like in Prius. Jeep Wrangler owners used to do this often....

    I am sure that the CT will have more adjustments for those that can sit in it...but that won't sway my opinion of it's purpose.

    Ok, I'm with you on this one - much easier to see instruments up near the windshield than struggle to see them through a steering wheel.

    i too drove the ct200h, but was disappointed because i had expected much better insulation.
    sounded like my prius...

    the hsi (always on) in the hud is really helpful.

    CT sales dropped to ~ 875 units in April in US. Earthquake wreaked havoc.

    Prius down in the 12k's in April. I don't know if it made top 20.

    In this article (only in Italian) here, apparently the head of Lexus Australia has shared detail of 2 new Lexus CT model - one a compact SUV (smaller than the RX) and the other a more performing CT.
    The brand names CT300h and CT400h have been already registered by Lexus, apparently and a 200HP version of the HSD is on the works for the additional CT model.

    Now we're talkin'. I think more than a few a somewhat disappointed with the CT200h.

    Seems like they are expanding the Lexus hybrid line an awful lot. New Prius hybrids coming. It's a slow process.

    I saw one of these on the road for the first time today. It is a sharp looking car. However, if I wanted a hot hatch, I would go buy another GTI or a WRX. If I want economy and cargo capability, I would buy a Prius.

    But I am not in the demographic for this car anyhow.

    They also made a comparison of the Auris Hybrid and a few other similar cars in terms of fuel efficiency and using the same testing methodologies, they got the following average fuel consumption values (absolute values can be questionable, but relative deltas between the cars is what is really interesting here):

    Auris 1.6L 132HP: 10,9km/L
    Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4L Turbo 120HP: 10,9km/L
    Opel Astra 1.4L Turbo 140HP: 11,1km/L
    VW Golf 1.4L Turbo 122HP: 11,7km/L
    VW Gold 2.0L TDI 140HP: 16,5km/L (considered one of the best diesel on the (italian) market - as per Quattroruote.it comment)
    Auris Hybrid 136HP: 17km/L

    I'm guessing the lower consumption of the CT at higher speeds is due to a different final gear ratio, allowing for better acceleration at the expense of more fuel consumption at the top end (presumably to deal with the extra weight).

    Does the weight of the tested car include the driver, recording equipment and options? 200kg is quite a bit!

    No, actually that is the weight of the car tested. The 200kg include the 13 speaker set up, pre-crash system, moonroof.... The standard price is 34.6k€, the one they tested costs 44k€ - 5.2k€ just for the Mark Levinson 13 speaker setup....

    Thanks for the update pakitt, I was waiting for it.
    Numbers are essentially the same with bit of Prius superiority, probably due to the better Cx and the wheels' size.
