Yes, in Canada actually. The HV battery was replaced at 700,000 km (435k miles).

Do you guys think age is a bigger factor than miles on the Prius battery?

    I do.

In addition, I believe that mountainous driving is much more stressful on the traction battery vs. driving on flat terrain.

Are you thinking that because mountainous terrain would charge the battery too much? Or is the rate of charge/discharge a factor? What else?

City driving maxes out charge and discharge rates practically every time you a signal stops and starts you. The difference with mountain driving is battery use at the edges of allowable SOC.

Yes. When driving on mountainous terrain you may find the SOC ranging widely from 1 red bar to 8 green bars.

Prius doesn't have alternator. When the Prius is on, the DC (201.6V) to DC (12V) inverter keeps the lead acid battery charged.

To check the voltage of the lead acid battery on the MFD, follow these instructions.

Voltage isnt a good indicator of battery life. Take it to a Napa/autozone/oriellys and have them check it. you can have a battery showing 12.5 volts with 0 CCA.

CCA are not an issue in a Prius as the 12v battery doesn't crank the engine, the relevant issue is Amp Hour capacity.

The test procedure using the maintenance functions of the MFD (or a digital volt meter) are documented in many threads on PC and Hybrid Car Forums as well as at Toyota Prius 12 Volt Auxiliary Battery with install kit for 2004 - 10 where they sell a good replacement 12v battery kit. In the procedure you put the 12v battery under load and check that the voltage doesn't drop below 12v. If it does, either the battery needs a charge or it needs to be replaced.
