The action was well orchestrated, well planned, and was accomplished, that would not have happened with a hasty president, many examples of that, Obama did it exactly as a president should have.

As far as celebrations go, where were the celebrations when Tim McVeigh was killed? My point is simple, the only thing to have felt over Osama, is the death of a criminal, one we created, one we supported, and one we funded, is happiness that he is gone, not celebrations, because right now at this very moment, we are creating the next Osama and McVeigh.

It's time for the Right Wing to show some respect not only for the President, but for everybody else who doesn't agree with their extreme political views.

Yes, he kept is nose out of it and let the people who know what they are doing run the show. He deserves respect for authorizing the plan. That is the sum of his involvement.

Right wing? Extreme political views? The same could be said about the leftists and extreme liberals. There will be no reconciliation amongst parties as long as this right/left B.S. keeps up. And I can assure you that no president will get any respect from the right as long as the congress keeps shoveling money into containers and shipping it overseas to fix every other country while we have our own problems to fix right here at home.

That's rich considering the right idolizes a president that funneled millions of US dollars to guerrillas during a time in which we were recovering from another, lesser recession:rolleyes: We're now in a recession that's second only to the Great Depression....I don't think either side realizes that it's going to take many sacrifices and years to recover from this (especially when I hear any politician's rhetoric).

He and Michelle seem pretty darn down to earth, at least the way they were talking on Oprah about how they make their children do chores and laundry. Barack seems quite level headed.

This is even richer coming from a lefty and considering the left idolizes a president that funnels thousands of weapons across our southern border. Weapons which kill, his own citizens, Border Agents, other innocent Mexicans, weapons which facilitate illegal immigration costing tax payers billions of dollars and weapons which promote drug importation thus increasing the power and reach of drug cartels. But that doesn't even top the list of richness in your comment, considering the present sitting President and his supporters all wish and yearn for him to emulate that very President (Reagan) you scorned above. :pound:

And considering we've spent billions upon billions just cleaning up Middle East policies during the Reagan administration...I can hardly see how any current president would want to emulate:thumb::bounce::pound:

Looks like we agree on one thing.

The first thing we should sacrifice is foreign aid, and do some work on domestic policies to help our own people.

The US is an empire, and like others before it, stretching itself thin is part of the deal. All roads didn't lead to Rome for free.

OK, first of all, let me say that I am extremely on the left side of politics. Second of all, I expect to get slammed for saying this, but someone has to say it.

The US created Osama bin Laden. When Reagan was president, he assisted him, and his group in their fight against the USSR in Afghanistan, by providing them with training and weapons. bin Laden was our "friend" until the US put troops in the Muslim Holy Land, in Saudi Arabia. Osama was so against this that he wanted to attack the West. There were several attacks against American assets in the Middle East following this, and then the 9/11 thing. So now he's Public Enemy Number One, and nobody has remembered that WE CREATED HIM, as we did others like Saddam Hussein, and Manuel Noriega.

People don't remember recent history, let alone ancient history, or long-term history. Thought the President did a great job in taking out Osama, without civilian casualties, he fails to get troops out of Afghanistan. Afghanistan: A place where no invading force, in recorded history, has ever succeeded. Not one.

Though it might have been okay to kill bin Laden, according to most of us, I do not feel the same way. I thought that the US was a nation that adheres to the Rule of Law. Since when is murder okay according to our laws? Yeah, bin Laden orchestrated the murder of several thousand, however, the US is guilty of murdering many more, in our war based on a lie, Iraq. Now what if someone in power there, decided to send some of his or her elite fighting forces, and kill George W. Bush, or Obama, for that matter? Would that be justified? After all, they both were in charge of killing many thousands of innocent civilians. In their opinion, both are "terrorists." After all, isn't war a form of terrorism? Especially a war based on a whole heap of lies.

Okay folks, I know I asked for it, so have at it!

I have to disagree, as the military take up half of our budget, and the fact that we are spending more on our military than the rest of the world combined. Cut the military first. Close overseas bases that we thought we needed during the Cold War, and bring those people home.

There are additional reasons why he hated "the west", and he did come from a very wealthy family. He would have "been somebody" no matter what. Good, bad, or just a middle eastern Paris Hilton, nobody will know. He chose to use his powers for evil and got most of his arms handed to him by his enemy. What a lucky break!

The withdrawal is beginning this July.

    From CNN:

"Last Year" was 2001, since the article was written in 2002: U.S. policy on assassinations - CNN

Basically bush signed an order that says "hey CIA, do whatever you want to kill this guy and all of Al Qaeda".

    More in depth here: http://www.fas.org/irp/eprint/stone.pdf

So they have legality for what they did, no matter how wrong it was to obtain legality.

Yes they would be justified. That's why the US has defense forces and an intelligence agency to sniff out such attacks that are planned all the time.

The problem is that the US is (or at least was and still kind of hopes it is) the ring leader of a group of nations that controls most of the worlds wealth and military power. There is an understanding between them to protect eachother. So the threats come from those who are not well off, and can be identified and squished easily. So anyone from a non-ally nation who even wants to attempt such a feat, will probably be intercepted and stopped before heading to the ATM to withdraw the funds needed to buy the schematics on ebay.

While in an ideal world I completely agree, I don't think it is going to happen.

It is a giant job welfare program. It is basically the only welfare program that republicans like. It is ok to spend tax payer money on crap we don't need as long as it is weapon based. And in doing so, they create millions of jobs that otherwise wouldn't be needed. Shut down the defense, and you grind the country as it is currently, to a halt.

So while I agree, it won't and can't happen in the foreseeable future.

I don't for one second believe Obama had this much input on the tactics or plan of action for the operation. He is not a military man, has no education in Military or tactics. He also doesn't show much in foreign or domestic policy, finance, planning, logistics...

Part of cutting foreign aid would/should include withdrawing military forces.

I agree with you here. Maybe we should be focusing on reducing taxes/regulations on factories and businesses so we can attract jobs or keep them from moving overseas where there are fewer regulations and taxes. This would help us rely less on federal/government/military for jobs and domestic financial stability.

Well it has come from various sources and people rather intimately involved, so believe it. You don't need military training to think things through logically. Since it developed for so long without a "plan b" perhaps the fact that he had no formal military training was a good thing since he thought of something like *gasp* a failure and the necessity of a plan b. Something that failed many many many times before, and nobody thought to make a backup... And then they needed it.

It reminds me of Black Adder (Season 4 Episode 1)
