this is driving me insane....i put my prius back on the road about 6 weeks ago... i've had to steam clean the interior 3 times, and vacuum it....almost daily.

it's a light tan color...which doesn't help but i have other light color interior vehicles and they don't get filthy like this thing does, is this just in how it was made at toyota or??

has anyone tried scotch guarding the whole interior? thinking about steam cleaning it again and drenching it in scotch guard. i can almost Look at the interior and it'll get dirty. my wife enjoys writing stupid things on the stereo faceplate in the dust before i leave each morning....i wipe it off daily and sure enough it's a clean dusty slate to write on again that evening.

p.s. my interior cabin filter is 6 weeks old aswell

i get a lot of dust as well. but no dirt because i don't put anything dirty in. i do take my trash and recycling to the dump, but i line the back with sheets before filling. i hve never had to do anything to the interior except an infrequent vacuuming. where is the dirt coming from?

Things only get dirty when they come in contact with dirt... If the car's inside is getting dirty, something is making it so.

    No issues here.

i have a 1year old child...so that accounts for some of the dirt...mainly crumbs. when i carry stuff in the back thats dirty, i have a moving blanket under the false panel in the trunk that i fold out. yet it still gets very dirty. i'm a very hands on person...so i get dirty frequently but i've never had "my dirt" transfer to a cars interior like this thing does.

also i am going to do a search but is there any good alternative to these seats that'll swap in easily? i find them to be Very uncomfortable. (not worth the mild weight savings over a more...well featured, cushioned seat in my opinion)

pigpen? just kidding. the one year old i can relate to, but that was 25 years ago and vinyl seats. not sure what all is available for seat swaps but you're right, they aren't the most comfortible. all the best!

i'll be looking heavily in to a comfortable/easy front seat swap for this thing. being mine is salvage and the bags already blew, i'm not to concerned with retaining the seat bags....

Our last car had a light tan interior: it was difficult to keep clean.

My wife has scotch guarded every auto interior immediately after purchase including our 2004 Prius. It has saved us from stains many times, but the light color Prius interior will still show dirt. You do need to reapply after cleaning up a major spill to maintain stain protection.

Look around here at cycledrum's posts. he did a lot of work on the seat in his Prius, including putting in a Camry(?) seat.. he ultimately ended up getting another vehicle.

Here's the main thread, I think..

In most provinces and states, for a salvaged vehicle to be allowed back on the road, airbags must be installed. In some states (like New York state) require brand new air bags. Meaning you cant pull non-blown airbags from other wecked vehicles.

If it's salvaged, I presume it was in a nonminor accident... did this bend a door in some way that a seal does not fully seal anymore and therefore let in a lot of dust whenever you're driving?

I also have a bisque interior, which was showing a bit of dirt... but I recently installed Wet Okole seat covers which should be easier to keep clean since i went for a very different colour scheme.

Not really. I get it detailed every year, vacuum it couple of times a year, and sometimes wash the carpets in the washing machine.

good for those states i suppose, however arizona is Not one of those states. if you saw the crap driving around here you'd be amazed. and i HATE airbags, i disable them as soon as i get a car with them. i've had bags blow 2 times in low speed impacts that did not warrant them to blow....hurts like hell and puts you in a VERY pissy mood.

yeah it was wrecked front right. now that you mention it there is a slight air leak at high speeds in the front portion of the passenger front door....never really thought about it letting in dust but i suppose it couldn't help anything. it's really enough for me to worry about thusfar (the air leak). i cleaned the prius 2 days ago completely (remove car seat too)...again sure enough it's already dirty...drives me insane. i haven't cleaned my altima in 6 months and the interior is still very very clean.

I wonder if you will have the same opinion when the time comes for them to deploy at high speed in your final moments before bashing your head into the steering wheel...

A "pissy mood" and a cabin full of particulate is a small price to pay for your life. I know Arizona has a lot of retirement communities, so if you only drive the Prius like a golf cart around your gated community at 15mph, then I see your point. But if you ever venture onto a real road...

Remember when an accident occurs, usually it is unintentional, involves one or more cars, and at least one of them had no idea it was coming...

you're free to your opinion on the matter and so am i. i do not like air bags. wear your seat belt.

also paying attention to what you are doing, and those around you are doing....tends to help.

You can't have an "opinion" based argument on facts. The facts are you are safer with an airbag with high speed crashes. End of story.

you're quite irritating. i don't like air bag's, deal with it, i'm not suggesting everyone go disable their airbag system, i do and that is MY CHOICE. i'm free to an opinion/choice....if you have an issue with that, Click the "back" button and stay out of my thread Bud. you like to share your opinion on things quite freely but like to complain about everyone elses....
