DIY JDM style side mirrors combo lights (Signal+Parking+Courtesy lights)

    Just received the lights from Nigel and hoping to install them on Sunday.
    I want to thank Civic Sky for his helpful write up. I know this has been asked before but is there a consensus on the wiring.

    That should make installation a bit easier. What is the location of the photo? Is that the connectors by the driver's foot?

    Correct and it's even further underneath in the back. The wires are wound pretty tight and you'll have to wiggle the correct blue wire out.

    For the right parking light. Civicsky don't you mean connect the "green/white" wire? The green wire is the led compartment light and the white wire is the positive lead for the parking light.

    You stated green/black wire which is the ground?

    I'm sorry! I should say "the-green-with-black-strip" wire is (+) for the parking light on the right. If you don't feel like split and mess with that tiny LED in the glove box, you can connect the blue wire all the way with the left parking light. About grounding the parking/signal lights (i.e. the common black wire), you can just connect anywhere on the car body as shown in the pic below:

    Lol I made a mistake myself. So people should connect the "blue" positive lead for the right parking light to the green and white wire for the glove box led. I got confused when you said green and black and thought about the puddle light wires by mistake hence the "white positive lead for the parking light which is actually blue

    All groupbuys are a one time thing but why not wait for spiderman to tell us whether the $20 paint job is satisfactory then you can get the ebay ones for significantly cheaper?

    The trick is finding the right blue wire because there are at least 5 blue wires coming off the A2 connector.

    With my borescope, I can see and touch the blue wire and will use it to help tap it. But unless someone can figure out how to disconnect the connector, it's hard to find otherwise. There are a lot of wires that are pretty tightly bound and there is not quite enough room to get my head underneath the dash and see the wires while the connector is attached.

    If anyone wants to try, the connector is on the bottom of the Main Body ECU junction block, which is directly above the driver's left leg. If you reach underneath, you will feel the boot covering the wires and if you feel around you should feel the latch. I just haven't been able to release the latch. If you do disconnect the connector, you will see a white wire in the bottom corner. The blue wire is the lowest blue wire (5 pins up) on the opposite edge (facing the driver's side fender). You should be able to move the boot out of the way to tap the puddle light negative to the wire.

    I doubt I will get a chance to do the work tomorrow, but I might try again to disconnect the connector. If I succeed, I will try to give a write up. As an alternative, it's probably easier to tap the blue wire as it goes up the driver's side A-pillar.

    To locate the correct blue wire, take the overhead dome lights down and use a probe/lightbulb voltage tester on it.

    Ya I'll clay bar them when I get a chance. The scuff marks though...they're pretty rough so I'm thinking it's more like a scratch almost. I have to take a closer look later when I have some free time.

    If I were to find the blue wire under the dash for the puddle lights, would I tap in the white (+) or the black (-),

    I ordered a set of led mirror for my Nissan 2 years ago on eBay.
    They charged $30 for a paint job and it looks good when they arrive. But less than 3 months, the paint started to chip off and i spent another $130 to paint my mirror. :mad::mad:
    I hope he has better luck on his set.

    The blue wire goes to ground to turn on the lights. So the negative wire connects to the blue wire. The positive wire connects to constant 12v, which you could get inside the door.

    i'm sure he made a candid mistake?

    The blue wire for the dome light connects to the white(+) wire. The black wire gets grounded to the body which is always negative.

    Just grab a 9 volt battery and test the leads. See which way the puddle lights light up :p if you don't believe me

    Agree with RodJo! Although I didn't use that blue wire, dome lights are negative triggered. If it were like any other switches, I wouldn't have to connect to the "third" (-) on my version of wiring. (shown below)

    Actually you're wrong cloud. Rodjo is correct. Toyota doors and almost all the cars in the world except older Fords are negative trigger. The puddle light's ground wire connects to the car's blue wire. The white wire on the puddle light goes to constant +12V.

    As you have already posted, most car bodies are negative. In order to save weight and ease of production, most door pins have only 1 terminal. The body of the pin is attached to the door jam therefore it's already grounded. When the pin is pushed in, the terminal breaks contact with the body of the pin therefore breaks connection to the pin itself. Once connection is broken, the light no longer receive the ground signal. In order for a positive door pin to work, the pin itself has to have 2 terminals, an input and an output. This is why for the puddle light, there's a separate power and ground wires where as the turn signal and the side marker share a common ground.

    So where would I connect the white wire to receive a constant 12v power?

    So the door is negative triggered? Therefore any part of the door is positive so I just connect the white wire to any bolt on the door?

    No, what RodJo and cproaudio meant was all the sheet metal including doors are negative, so that car manufacturers didn't have to run extra (+) wires to every door frame to control the light. What you need to do is to find a constant 12V (+) for the white wire and black wire with the blue one from underneath the dash. Maybe you can wait until other members confirm about the accessibility of the blue wire before connecting your puddle lights; otherwise, go for the rear dome light should be easier for you and you don't have to hunt for the constant (+) because it is already there for you inside the dome light housing.

    Just installed them today! Didn't install the puddle lights for either side. Just left the wires nicely tucked away until I figure out how to get them to work.

    I wish these lights were brighter :(

    They should have used SMD leds for the pilot light

    I can barely notice from the front when I got my HID fogs and low beams on lol
