    Hello all,
First I would like to say thank you to everyone on this site. You guys have been a big determining factor weather to but a hybrid or not. I picked up mine on Saturday and love it. No, there were no giant dealer incentives taken off but I think I got an ok deal. I walked away with payments where I wanted them, so i am happy.

I did want to know, is the extended 10 year/100,000 warranty worth the extra 25 bucks a month? I said yes to it because to me this is all new tech and I want to be covered when I have a prob.

Anyway thanks again and hope to chat with you all soon.

    Joe

Congrats on your new Prius and welcome to PriusChat. Many PC'ers including myself would believe the Prius to be so reliable that you won't need to buy an extended service contract.

Enjoy the high MPGs, technology and low emissions.

Welcome, Lots of good info here. We are just past the our 1st year. No real problems except a loose rear view mirror

If it makes you feel better then go for it... for parts / labor past the norm bumper to bumper 100 K.

There is a link on this site to get the same as your dealership extended warranty @ a great price. :lalala::welcome:

100k mi is already in the base US warranty, right? So 100k mi is useless. Especially since US drivers tend to drive way more than EU or other countries drivers. 100k over 10 years? will you manage to drive only 10k mi per year not to go beyond the mileage limit and enjoy the 10 years of warranty? I doubt.

Moreover, 10 years at 25$/month? that is 25*12*10=3000$.
Save this money on a safe deposit with some interest rate on it and if something happens (e.g. battery dies, which it will not) you have enough money to repair it without the need to use one salvaged from a Prius in a wreckage yard (is this how they are called?). If nothing like that happens - most likely, you have saved 3000$.
It is too easy to play with people uncertainties to get money from them. The US warranty is already pretty good - I would stick with that and save some money each year in case something happens.

The bumper to bumper warrantee is 3yr/36k miles. The battery and SOME hybrid components is 8yr /100 k miles and up to 8 yrs/150k miles in some states. The drivetrain is 5 yr/60k and rust through is 5yr/60k miles. For peace of mind, getting an extended warrentee may not be a bad idea. Some componants are very expensive in the Prius. They sell a 7 yr 125k mile bumper to bumper Toyota Warrantee on this site for less than $1,100. Although the Prius has proven to be very reliable, you can read about expensive componants breaking on this forum. One recent example is the break pump needing replacement at $3000. I am still on the fence about it myself. I have 3 yrs/36k miles to decide.
