I've been lurking for a while, and I am proud to say that I am (finally) getting my Prius on Saturday. :D

I just put a deposit on it this morning. It's about two hours away from me and I didn't want anyone to snatch it up before me :p It's a Three with the solar roof in blue ribbon metallic. I can't wait!!!

I've read a bunch of the newbie threads, but one of the most comprehensive ones I saw was for Gen II... are there any Gen III specific things I should check before leaving the dealer on Saturday?

Welcome and congrats in advance on your new ride.

Regarding a delivery check list, try a search--there have been a few threads on this.

Welcome aboard! If you don't like a lot of beeping inside the car, be sure to ask them to set the reverse beep to 1 beep. Otherwise it is continuous while in reverse. Better yet, just have them put in writing that you want one free configuration visit.

Let me second that because you do want a free configuration visit. There are many things you can electronically customize on your new car, but it would be best to read the owners manual first, live with the car a few days and then go in with a list of things you want configured (beeps, locking format etc) Enjoy your new car:welcome:

Is the extra visit worth it even if the dealership is 2 hours away and a PITA to get to?

The backup beeps don't bug me. I've kept everything on default. The only thing that bugs a bit is only the driver door unlocks when you use the keyfob. But it's not hard to press it twice to open all the doors.

I'm fairly technical so I can follow the instructions in the manual to change the settings w/o visiting the dealer.

Don't forget to get your car filled up on gas. Note the odometer and reset one of the trip meters immediately to track your own mileage :p

It should be washed and/or detailed by the dealer. If you are serious, you can ask them to clay & wax it as well. My dealer charges $140 so if you can get it thrown in as a freebie, it's a bonus.

Check for scratches on the paint.

Have them check the tire pressures and make sure it's at least to the pressures as stated on the sticker on the inside of the driver's side door.

If you don't like the OEM tires, you can perhaps have them swap to another set of OEM tires (i.e. Yokohama vs Goodyear vs Michelin, etc.) I believe the Yokohamas have the least treadwear, something I wasn't aware of at time of purchase. Goodyears and Michelins are good.

That continuous backup beeping is annoying :der:
For sure set it to one beep.

Look over every inch of the car before signing the contract for it. Get the pre-delivery inspection sheet and look that over.

Try as many things out as you can - seats, windows, make sure things work.

Test drive for sure. Make sure it drives great.

That's a nice rich color you're getting. Get some expert advice on how to have it washed to avoid swirl marks which can show up a bit more on dark colors.

Very nice! Ours is a blue ribbon metallic and I love the color... you'll enjoy it too!

Make sure to do a thorough walk-around, make sure there's no scratches or anything. Also, make sure there's a manual! Ours didn't have one in it, so I had to have them order one.

Congrats on your new Prius to be, and welcome to PriusChat.:welcome:

It's Friday the 13th, and a great day to prepare to pickup up a new Prius tomorrow! The smarter Prius owners go their dealer the day before and pickup their owner's manuals to begin reading about the high MPGs, technology and low emissions. :D

Congrats on the new car, and good luck!

    +1 on the reverse beep!
Don't let them talk you into the warranty at the dealer. You can purchase the factory warranty afterwards more cheaply. Same goes for GAT, and other "goodies" that they (might) try to gouge you for.
Watch out for "dealer installed options."
Nitrogenated tires and fabric and paint protection seem to be favorites lately. I saw one Toyota dealer actually list Nitrogen in the tires as a $100+ option!!!

    God Luck!
Remember......you can always just walk away from the deal. If they think you won't...you may wind up paying extra for some things that you really don't need or want.
I hope that the dealer is honest and that your purchase goes smoothly!

The even smarter ones just look up the manual online and begin reading there. :D

Also, the dealer offered me crap for my trade-in. Anyone want a 2000 corolla with only 111,000 miles on it? :)

Are you aware of Capt. John's site John's Stuff - Toyota Prius and more. He recently posted a user guide for the 10/11 model that you might find useful. He drives a solar also.

Congrats. I hope you enjoy the experience. I skipped Gen I & purchased a Gen II in 2008. I got all the bells and whistles too. Love my car even as we age together. I plan to stay in Chicago with my gen II, move to a sunny State and purchase a gen IV electric. If not, I can see riding in the sunset with my cute gen II Prius for many more years....Have a great Ride!
