Received my JDM front chrome grill insert add on today from Japan, install is rather painless and simple with 3M double sided tape. Got it on Yahoo Japan auction for US$105 shipped to my friend locally in Japan, then I paid for EMS air freight into the states. Yes, it's very steep price for 2 plastic chrome pieces, but since I can't find any here in the states (searched all over on Ebay) I will just have to live with it. Overall made the car's front end looked alot more elegant. Enjoy the pics.

Item came in a white box and grill packed inside 2 polybag. Notice the 3M double sided tape already affixed to the underside of add on grill cover.

Comparison of the grill add on the right compare to the left (still left stock). You can see the difference.

Guess I'm thrifty. Rather than the plastic chrome, a $5 can of paint and some masking tape and newspaper. Easy one hour job and makes a nice subtle add.

Nicely done. Quite subtle. I wouldn't be surprised if that will be one of the official changes made to the midlife update on the Gen 3.

Dean, nice little paint add on you did there. I guess I am a sucker for chrome LOL.

This chrome add on makes it look more like what it should be if Prius was badged under Lexus.

Isn't that always the case, when it comes with something standard we want to jump to the other side. If Prius came with normal red/white lens cover, we would want to switch to the clear ones that we have now. :)

Yep, very true. The grass is greener on the other side.

Definitely agree about the grass is greener. Although I think it depends on what you want your car to look like - If you were going for the rogue or blacked-out look this wouldn't appeal to you even if you were missing chrome.

I am so sorry, but if you would have gone to AutoZone or Advance Auto store you could have bought a roll of chrome plastic, the same stuff that you use for door edge guard and used it, I did and have all my grille chromed upper and lower for just a few bucks.

The roll of chrome is wide enough to cover the width of the grill?

If I recall, it sort of looks to be about the sized of a roll of duct tape...so yeah.

Granted there are ways to do things cheaper, but putting money aside the chrome makes the front end looks so much nicer!

Just hope that the Autozone stuff doesn't peel or flake like what Nissan put on their Murano! I thought it was chrome-plated but it turns out to be chrome painted plastic when I saw an example peeling away and revealing the black plastic underneath. Ugh!

The 3 dollar answer found at O'Rielly's

I followed a suggestion from a poster here and purchased chrome door protectors for about 3 dollars. The OPs mod is designed for the Prius grille, but I had to revamp the door protectors for the plastic vertical "teeth" that are not apparent until you start the project. I needed to remove my work and notch out the bottom of the trim where those "teeth" interfere with the smooth application of the protectors, which you need to precisely cut to fit the center "rib" in each side of the grille. I'm not convinced yet, and it can be removed...but I will keep it for awhile to see if it grows on me. What to you think?
