    Hello guys,
I thought I would share my new project. I know the picture is really bad but I couldn't wait to post. The tab is fully integrated using bluetooth audio. I am currently in the process of adding the OBDII bluetooth kit so that I can run the dashcommand app on the tab.

I will post better pictures in a few days.

Interesting. I've been "Windows" shopping for something like this for installation in a new Ford F-150. Considering using an ASUS Slate w\SSD as the tablet. Win 7 PC based so I can use my Garmin Mobile PC app or other GIS Software for the Nav. and VLC for the media player. Imagining a dummy panel attached to the back so the tab could be flipped and it would look like you didn't have a "Radio".

Palmer link for those who want to see the Scangauge type app source.

They have some pid info pdf's in their download section too.

Are you feeding the output to an, amplifier to supply power to your speakers?

This is making a custom info/nav display using a tablet type computer. You get 3g, wifi, bluetooth, usb, touchscreen functionality. The ability to run a wide array of apps such as gps nav using usb/bluetooth gps receiver and garmin software. You could use a full featured media player like VLC and play almost all file types not just no quality Apple, WMP mp3 files. There is also software now available to display and log OBDC-II data in realtime on the tablet device. (See Palmer link in post 2).

    5.1 surround sound?

That's my concept but we will have to wait and see what D M puts together with Android.

Well I do have the dashcommand (palmer) app installed. I am in talks with them as we speak on getting the OBDII bluetooth kit for the application.

Yes, I am running a EQ with a 4channel amp to run the sound through.
I have a bluetooth kit installed as well just incase I want to hear something from a passengers phone or devise. The Tab is installed with a custom fitted mount from Samsung and the dash kit from scoche. I had to cut the dash kit so that I can remove the Tab anytime.

    5.1 :)

No 3g but running the wifi tethering from my 4g phone so I get speeds from 3g to 4g when available. It runs all my app's really well. Google maps and navi run perfect. I am also running Sygic Navi so if I don't have wifi or 3g/4g I can just turn on the gps and run the Sygic navi. Its pretty good. I also have copilot just incase as well.
Music: Pandora, Iheart radio and a few other apps for radio.
Movies come out clean and play great on the tab. I can throw any file type and it seems to play any file so far.
I will have more pictures probably by this weekend. I will be a TORC in Long Beach, CA with a few other priuschat members to show off our Prii's. It will be a fun day. I should have lots of pictures that day to share.

Pretty much. I like the idea. You don't have too.
The concept is removing the traditional head unit oem or aftermarket completely out of the picture and trying something new.

You will see very soon head units running android. People have been installing carputers for a while now so this is just a transition to that I guess.

A few things are lacking though. No back up camera (yet) and a really good full featured radio app but I hardly listen to radio anyway.

    nice!
Im in the process of doing something similar but with an ipad. Easy way is to take stereo 3.5mm out to rca for 4ch amplifier. Better way is to send it into a sound processor that will correct the signal level and freq(also allow for more adjustment). Either way, your going to have some way to control the volume(knob or remote). how are you retaining steering wheel control?(dont think any interface will do this..?) are you molding the dash, or just making a mount? in for final pics.
No thread jack but heres my Z i did, and doing the same in the Prius

Nice. I always loved the z from past to present. Looks good with the ipad. I thought the ipad was going to be to big for the prius thats why I went with the SGTab. I am retaining the steering wheel controls. I modified my stock radio so that I can still listen to the radio since android does not have a fully functional radio app. Volume, power and radio fully functional.
I will have better pictures after Saturday. I should have daytime pics shot at the TORC fest.

D M What is your reasoning for using Bluetooth instead of USB for the OBD II interface? Driver issue on the SG Tab? Xitech XR-7 is available with either one but the USB is about half the price.

That looks awesome! Is the Galaxy Tab the super amoled display like the phones? If so what you're doing might become really popular in the coming few years. You've got my interest piqued!

It all starts with a tablet. Then you want a more powerful system with more features. Pretty soon you'll want to install a full blown CarPC with touch screen. BTW how did you get white dash lights?

The App is called dashcommand. Its a OBDII software.
It is running on demo mode for picture purposes.

I decided not to go with the carputer rought.
It was just much more simple using the SGT.
It has all the features I wanted and more.

Now I can even use the SGT as my phone. using Google voice.

    Its just so much fun.

I took out the green leds and replaced them with super white upgraded one's.
Its pretty easy. The stock radio was hard though. It has to many leds to change.
    The AC was really easy.
    I think its something new.

No, the SGT is not the amoled screen but it still looks good.

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

Is the demo mode different than in actual use ? The display looks really nice, and functional too.

No the demo is what you would see, same as the pics.
There are different skins available for the display that show different guages.
You can customize them. I downloaded the GTR and the Lexus LF.

I hope I can get everything working very soon and post a video of the unit.

    Thanks.
