    - sorry mistake in title, not instead of -

    * Asking about a trim option, an additional choice to the basic wheel. Same idea as like a Corolla LE premium package which gets special wheels *

I didn't put this thread in Accessories and Mods section because this wheel pictured is 100% Toyota, straight off a 2008 Corolla XRS, also found on Matrix XR.

Not asking if you like this exact wheel, but a similar size, and with no plastic cover and no need to buy center caps if you remove the cover. This might give MPGs and ride feel between a non-V and a V.

    Single choice only, thanks.

I am not a fan of the stock wheel but I dislike those as well.

Wheels are one of those things where everyone has a different viewpoint.

I dislike the style of those. I think you are suggesting these replace the standard wheels right? So these would be the "base". In that case I think the size is ok.

I more of a fan of the double 5 spoke or 7 spoke ones, much thinner.

You have broached this before, and I said I liked it then I still like it now. The more wheel choices the better. Would not mind seeing some TRD wheels as a option.

No, not replace the basic 15's. This would be for example, an extra IV option without solar roof. Or an additional III option w/ navigation, but could still get 15's in another III combo. something like that.

I saw a new III w/ solar roof in showroom with 18" wheels and 40 series tires, asking $4k for the wheels. They didn't seem concerned with a weight issue with solar roof. I wouldn't buy that. It would have less resale than a regular III w/ solar.

That was not cool, Cycledrum. :( Wth?!

Exactly...why are we having this topic again? What is the point? How many more trivial crap must we see a poll about?!! Sometimes, i am hoping that you fall in love with another hybrid brand, instead of the Prius....

To you and the other guy, what exactly did you not like about me stating that this is not a threat to replace your guy's type of setup?

Is it trivial that non-Five buyers have to pay for aftermarket wheels just to have a choice?

Are we supposed to just sit back and take whatever comes from Toyota? They could use some feedback 'cause they sure don't get it from surveying customer about how they like their cars post-sale.

Well, the additional "option" or standard feature specifically for a Prius IV with those alloy rims will probably cost more than an aftermarket set of rims. (I am sure that part of the large increase in Prius V/Five pricing is due to the unique set of rims. Anything that is not mass produce in large numbers will cost more.) And as noted above, rim design is rather owner specific. There is no one set of rim design that makes everyone happy. So, Toyota "force feeding" us with your 16" rim may make someone like you bitch and moan about that selection and making yet another useless poll like this one to ask about another design he/she would like to see.

Toyota decision may end up being what most people like. The base rim may be indeed cheap to produce...so, the price of Prius II-IV is kept low. If anyone likes some other rim, then he/she can buy it.

It is kinda like why Toyota 4runner Trail Edition don't come with BFG AT KO tires...instead they come with cheapo Dunlops. Since tires (like rims) are so diverse and different people have different needs, it would be stupid for Toyota to force people to pay more for what they don't want.

As for not saying a damn thing...well, you have already, haven't you?? So, why bring it up AGAIN? :der:

Right now what we have is a whole crap load of people scraping a curb, then their plastic hubcap cracks and falls off. New ones cost $80 each from Toyota. I just talked to a salesguy named Chong. Exactly what happened to him.

Next, many pull all the other hubcaps off, then they have these butt-ugly holes in the center and have no clue what to put there. They don't hang out on Priuschat.

Is the above a good situation for 'thee hybrid', the Prius?

Is this going to make people say, wow, I want one those?

Just so you know, Pruis V's are rare. I don't see them very much. My guess is they are well under 10% of Prii out there.

    Just a couple things.

When I bought my Prius used, it was missing a hubcap cover. Well I didn't notice it until I drove it 2000miles back home, so it might have been there when I bought it 30 hours earlier, but I don't know. Anyways I bought one on eBay for $12 shipped, had it in my hand in 2 days. Put it on, banged it with a rubber mallet and it is still on there. I do have to question if this is not a solution to a problem that should be solved separately anyways? If someone is hitting curbs all the time, then perhaps a driver training program is needed?

Last comment is I don't understand how a hubcap or wheel design is even possible in swinging someone's decision to buy a $20k-$30k vehicle. If you don't like the wheels, then change them. Sell the stockers to someone on ebay or craigslist for a good amount (because people always want the stock ones, usually just one or two because of accidents or damage) and then buy whatever you want. It's the same people who look at a $900K house, and dislike the colour of some of the walls that a $20 bucket of paint will fix.

It's alright. I think it was #18 in April. I don't recall it being in top 10.

Apples to apples...is it #1 among hybrids?

As i have told you in the past, hybrids are not mainstream vehicles...so, you can't compare them to Camrys and Accords. Maybe in the near future, they will become such, but for Americans, hybrids are still not widely accepted as mainstream.

Maybe you can see how the Prius rank in japan?

EDIT: in japan, the Prius is easily the top 3 best selling cars....

Really, read your C&D buyer's guide, 2009 p19 - 'with sales of ... 180k last year, the Prius is fully mainstream..'

I've seen it sell about #15 before, it is mainstream.

With Prius family, it might push on top 10.

I'd like to know where to look for wheels suitable to Prius. I don't like what I see on tirerack.
