Hello all. I've recently purchased a 2001 Prius that had a disagreement with a freeway center divider. The owner did not have collision insurance and was selling the car for parts. It was not a total or salvage, she just could not afford the repairs. I have a custom car/hot rod shop right around the corner from where the car was towed to. I paid the asking price and set out to do the repairs. I realize this is not a normal do it yourself project and that the Prius is a sophisticated car. I took care of the suspension repairs in house, cleared the trouble codes and it runs great! I will bring it to the body shop next week for body and paint. I look forward to 40 plus mpg and doing my part to cut down on wasted fuel. It will replace my 10 mpg truck as a daily driver. I'll update as I go.

    Aloha and Welcome!

The Prius is not much of a "Hot Rod" as far as speed and performance goes. It does excel at fuel efficiency and saving. Glad you took the challenge of fixing up your new Prius. May it give you many years of trouble free service. I have a prediction, you are going to like your Gen. 1 so much you will buy another Prius either a Gen. 2 or 3.

Keep is posted on how things go once you really start driving it.

Depending on how long the car has already sat and how long it will sit while you do your repairs, you might want to look after the HV battery. The GenI has a much weaker battery system than the GenII/GenIII. Idleness is not good for a pack.

Does the engine run? If it does, then I would start it every week or two for a half hour just to get the pack going.

    Hi all, thanks.

Yes Jimbo, I looked for a Gen I forum, didn't see one so I just posted an intro.
And Dustoff, you have no idea how I look forward to driving something economical! I love hot rods, but I have a diverse taste in cars. Knowing me, this is just my 1st Prius.
2K1, The car has not sat at all. It crashed on the 10th of May. It actually runs great. Has 99k miles on it, and the traction battery was supposed to have been replaced 2 years ago. Thanks for the tips, I will make sure and run it if it's going to sit for any length of time at the paint shop.
OK, I'm off to find the Gen I forum.

I see that temp spare look has been around for a while. First time I hauled ours out for a look there was a united chorus: "tractor tire".

Ha yeah. I think the idea is to shame or guilt you into not making it your full time tire! The original bit the dust, a replacement is on it's way. I'll update the avatar as we go. Can't go into this under false pretense with a shiny new picture!

Hey Ed, I just noticed you are in Hawaii. I just restored a Hilo Sampan for a friend on Oahu. If I find a Prius hit in the rear, I'll build a Prius Sampan!

So, I now have a wholesale account at Toyota, and all the genuine Toyota parts will be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait to drive it full time! Pics coming soon.

That would be cool a Prius Sampan. I had to google Hilo Sampan just to see what you were referring to. I know there are a few odd custom driving around Prii there is a convertible and a Limosine. Google those and you should find some photos.

Todays update, I'm driving the Prius! Runs and drives great. I do have a slowly flashing airbag light. I jumped the pins on the OBD and got a code 32 33 44 48. EDIT: Problem solved!
