Is this gray plastic coating seal or cushion?

    One drawback of reading too much on PriusChat is that when someone has a problem with his/her car I start to wonder if my car is having the same problem. Recently the problem of water leaking into the spare tire well resurfaced and that prompted me to look into mine. Of course it was bone dry but then I noticed a crack in this gray plastic coating at the bottom of the spare tire well:

    I am guessing it is just for cushioning, not sealing, since I see it at another flat, higher place:

    and there is this yellow stuff that looks more like for sealing:

    Any suggestions?

    I think the gray stuff in first and second pictures are used for damping,isolation for the car inside. Those are the spots they found tire noice,suspension noice entering into the car. Those stuff are used to make the cabinet more silent. :rolleyes:

    The yellow stuff looks like/is seam sealer.
