Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Its got 44k miles on it which is holding me back. I'm new to the Prius so I'm not sure what things I should look for.

At what point does the battery need to be replaced? I've heard horror stories about Gen I batteries, I'm guessing 10 years later its a bit refined.

Any other items I should check extra close? 44k miles for $27,998. KBB puts retail on the Prius V with 44k miles at $30k but I still feel they can do better that $27,998.

Thanks for any and all feedback.

Looking over the CarFax now, its clean. Looks like it was first serviced at 20,196 miles though :(

Link to those "rumors" about the batteries: The 200,000-mile question: How does the Toyota Prius hold up?

And that is with the 2001 model. Battery tech has since improved...so, no, there are way more success stories about the battery lasting till 300,000 miles and beyond than stories about batteries going dead at 100k miles.

Wow, 44k miles later and someone can still sell it for $27k?? For me, 44k miles is like a 3 or 4 year old car already. I would just make sure that the Prius got all of its regular maintenance at a legit place. I would make sure that it got the ABS update.

    Good luck.

    Thanks Thai

Part of the issue is we are turning in a 2010 ML350 that we leased and rolling over about 3k negative equity. The monthly payments are still less than the MB and the gas consumption will be WAY down (currently about $90 USD/wk). I'm not sure we would get the same trade in value at a dealer like we would through CARMAX.

But I agree, a 3k difference and saving 30k miles is huge, and I'm calling the dealer now. Its a bit of a hike but well worth it. Thanks so much for the find, it probably eluded my search since I did a 25mi radius.

Well, some of the used Prius linked above are located at dealerships...so, hopefully, you should be able to get similar values for your ML at those dealerships. Trade-ins save you on your sales tax. In your case, i would avoid CARMAX too.

Lmao. Are you insane? You're thinking of paying $28,000 for a 2010 Prius with 44,000 miles on it?! :D:D:D:D:D

Maybe I'm missing something, but that strikes me as an insane amount of money for what you get. My 2010 Prius II was something like $23,000 -- with 1 mile on the odometer -- back in February. I understand that mine is a II and yours is a V, and that demand has spiked as of late, but 44K miles? I have a hard time believing you couldn't do better elsewhere...

I agree with all of you, I was merely looking at what was in my 25mi radius. Sometimes I need more than just my wife to point out my insanity. Hence the reason I posted here before pulling the trigger.

Remember that the spike in prius prices right now is due to a temporary shortage AND high oil prices. Remove one of those from the mix (and regardless of your opinion on oil, Toyota will ramp production up again) and then used Priuses are no longer worth their weight in gold.

I wanted a second one but with prices where they are recently I bought something else. Refused to pay the sucker's premium on these cars, which is what they have right now.

    34k miles, $27,000: 2010 Toyota Prius V

It's ridiculous. I know. A guy locally is trying to sell a 2010 Prius for 19,900 with almost 50k miles and a cracked bumper. I can't make this stuff up:

    2010 Toyota Prius

    Don't forget this great deal, $23,000 for a 2009:

    http://rochester.craigslist.org/cto/2388089294.html

Hit up autotrader right now you'll laugh your silly nice person off at the cost of these things right now.

I could buy my leased one out from Toyota and turn around and make a profit, it's ludicrous.

According to KBB, $28k isn't an outlandish price to pay for a Prius V with Nav now a days. I bought my V in January...it had about 4k on the odom...for roughly $28k, and it's loaded with Adv. Tech package, Nav, JBL premium sound, leather, etc. It's showing the private party value to be in the neighborhood of $31k now. This is the first time in a LONG time that I've bought something that actually went up in value...including my house.

You're right. Houses no longer appreciate and cars do. Now that's crazy!

Something to consider in the price of your car.

I traded a SUV in (17 MPG) on my 2010 Prius V. It has the 17" wheels and as such, doesn' get quite the mileage as the version with the 15" wheels. HOWEVER, The 17's are well worth the money and mileage hit AND with the mileage I get with my Prius, I am saving $300 a month in gas not needed compared the the SUV.

Do you suppose that $300 a month (with gas at $3.50) is something you could use?
