No need to move the keys, someone typing fast enough that Dvorak makes a difference doesn't look at the keyboard.

It always screws me up when I switch between QWERTY and AZERTY and I don't have the real keyboard. I rarely ever look at the keyboard, and never while typing, but when I do my brain wants the fingers and keys to line up. It is like a mental barrier otherwise and I look like an octogenarian poking a couple keys forcibly and slowly...

A while back there was an awesome keyboard with individual colour OLED screens in every key. You could do anything with it. I really wanted one, then forgot about it.

You must be much younger than I thought. The 9600 vs 4800 choice (no 'k' in there) came after the 2400 vs 1200 choice. And those were great improvements over the earlier 300 and 110 baud units.

I remember 300 baud acoustic coupler modems.

If I only ever used my own computer, I would. People tend to get upset when I start 'fixing' their keyboards for them, and I'm not keen on hauling mine around with me. Despite being a design relic from another age, I think qwerty's here to stay.

She told me she was thirty nine. This was after telling me she was a witch, so I didn't dare question her. ;)

Why would anybody need more than 300 bps ? It is average typing speed.

    ;)

As an April Fool's joke some years back, one of the guys swapped a Manager's [H] and [G] keys. He swapped the key assignments as well.
All morning, she kept trying to figure out why she was misspelling things and then when she looked down she realized that she was physically hitting the wrong keys. She was typing by memorization but was starting to question her typing. She didn't pick up on the fact that her keys had been swapped until after lunch when she physically walked her keyboard over to someone else's desk to verify.

This same guy once updated someone's Microsoft Word Autocorrect function so that it automatically replaced the word "the" with "the stupid".

Because when you download porn you need more than 300bps.

If ASCII porn was good enough for grandpa, it's good enough for you.

    Twenty three. 23.

I've just had several years' experience at being 23.

I remember 110 baud terminals. I was ecstatic when we went to 300.

Please accept my humble apologies. I really don't want to be a newt again.
Next, somebody's going to say they remember smoke signals.

You are right. 4800 baud vs. 9600 baud. the "k" didn't show up until we got into higher bandwidths, and it was used to denote thousands.

While I'd like to be thought of as really young, it is just that I began using computers and the 'net a bit further on in my life than some did.

I'm with you on the 'really young' part, but I started using computers at an early age, so I guess you could say my mind is older than it looks. :)

I thought for sure qbee was going to chime in about the smoke signals. Something about how smoke still makes electronics function, because when you let the magic smoke out, they don't work any more. ;)

My first modem was Zoom 28.8k. Most of the time, it connects at 24k and sometimes at 26.4k. I found out later that I bought it before the V90(?) became standard.

Man, those BBS days. HSLink was a real breakthrough.

I do! I remember it being a pretty good movie too, if a bit odd. :p
