We got rear ended in our 2010 Prius V and wound up with a 2010 Civic for a rental car for a couple of weeks. If I had never driven something better, I would probably have liked the Honda ...BUT ... I have drive something better. I am on my second Prius and close to 80,000 miles experience.

A few things you will learn if you get the Prius. It is bigger than the Civic. It will get 15 to 20 MPG more than the Civic. IF you only get the Prius II, it might or might not be more comfortable than the Civic ... depends on the interior of the Civic. My Prius V was definately more comfortable.

Also, if you get the Prius II versus the Prius V, you will get less handling, slower steering response, and a softer ride due to the difference in the tires, steering ratio, and suspension settings compared to the V. I don't know how the II steering and such compares to the Civic.

I live in DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area and I was able to get these mpgs for my two trips today. LOVE IT!!

First trip, average 50mph mostly on US301.

I beat that with my second trip! Mostly highway doing 70-75mpg on I-95.

So I used like less than 2 gallons of gas for a 100 mile! Awesome!

I've got 6,000 miles on my 2011 model. I drive it just like I drive any car, which is pretty serene -- 58 mph on 2 lanes and 65 mph on the freeway. At those speeds it's hard to end up below 55. I did one 500 mile trip at 75 mph on the highway on a cold weekend just to see what kind of mileage and ended up with 51 mpg. I work 3 days a week in Detroit, and when I'm in city driving I regularly get 57+.

Prii are miracle machines as far as I'm concerned. They are quiet, have enough power, comfortable and are the most economical to drive. I haven't found a downside for normal driving.

It's been over over 3 weeks since the OP posted. As of this writing, he's had no activity after the day of the post.

At this point, I'm not sure it's productive to spend any more effort in replying. The OP may no longer be interested in a Prius or have just "tossed a grenade".

I recently drove to my son's home in NH, from Maine. This was all interstate at 65-67 mph. Just over 200 miles, and I got 56.3 mpg. It was in the 70's that day. Warmer weather does make a difference. Last winter I was averaging 46 mpg.

Your right.... Here in Oregon with 40-50 degree winter weather and heavy rain with soaked roads MPG, calculated, was around 46-48 mpg consistently.

Now with temps in the 60's and dry roads MPG are in the low to mid 50's consistently.

No matter what part of the country you live in summer is the time of the Prius.

I agree with your other post regarding these grenade launchers.

I have owned 4 Civic hybrids and two Prius's. I love the Civic interior layout and the way it drives. But the over quality of the Prius, so far, as been the best I have ever seen including Mercedes Benz (240D and 300D).

My Prius MPG has always been better than my best day in a Civic.

    Very nice job Toyota!
