Unless you have a desire to reduce gas consumption for its own sake, work out how many "taxi" miles you do each in the Navigator each year and work out how much a Prius would save on gas.

Test drive a 2009 Prius and a Gen III Prius (2010 or 2011) to get a feel for the car and decide whether you could drive one. The Prius is not to everyone's tastes.

Also, really think about how much you need the Navigator for towing. If you don't tow much, work out how much it would cost to rent to meet your towing needs and compare to the savings you could make by selling it and saving on registration, tax and insurance.

Although you mention the luxury of the Lincoln, since you own all older vehicles I'd suggest trying a higher trim Prius to see whether it would provide enough comfort for you.

You might also want to contact your insurance company to find out how much it would cost to insure a Prius.

Once you have all the numbers you'll be in a better position to decide which cars to replace or whether even to bother replacing them.

My insurance policy is an "All Vehicles Owned or Operated by" policy. So that part won't change. The "taxi" services part of the Navigators use happens often. Especially during the summer. My daughter and her "giggle" of girls (Thank you for the correct terminology - Twittle) tend to go lots of places in the summertime.

One of the other uses of the Prius would be Walt Disney World trips when it is more than my daughter and I. We go quite often... We bought annual passes and I like to abuse them. Up to our last trip we always took the Navigator. This last trip (May) it was just the two of us so we used the Insight. Huge savings! At least $250 in fuel savings.

Our next planned trip is in October and my DD8 and I want to take her little sister (my ex-wife's new two year old with us) with us. A Prius would be nice for the trip.

Itsnotaboutthemoney, you are right. I'd like to have a higher package. I'm taking my time finding the right car. I plan to drive quite a few before buying mine.

After test driving 14 Toyota Prius, I selected the one that I wanted to purchase. Only four of the models I test drove had navigation. I wasn't as impressed by the navigation system as I had thought I would be. Certainly not $5k worth of impressiveness.

Total after taxes, tag, fees, etc. wound up being $17,482 for a 2008 Toyota Prius with 78k miles. The dealer includes Toyota Certified Extended with every vehicle sold. So, I have the coverage for 7 years or until it breaks 100k. Which do you think will come first.

They ordered me an extra key and a set of floor mats at no additional charge. Nice plus at the end of the deal. I would have still bought without it.

This was the only one with Red exterior that my daughter and I encountered. It wasn't the cheapest one that we found but I felt it was the best value. I'm happy with it. On the trip home from the dealer (about 45 minutes) we got 47.4 mpg. Not up to the Insight's level but pretty respectable. I'm happy.
    :)

Neat! Red is a good color on the Prius.

Congratulations, it'll be interesting to hear your take on the two vehicles! That makes at least three of us and I think there are a couple more Insight+Prius owners on here.
